Why the hell is it any of Jordan's Gawddamn business what Lebron is trying to do with his career? I've never heard Jordan's punk ass speak out on anything like this before when it came to Kobe, Shaq, or any other major free agent looking to jump.

Ol' bytch ass, cheese eyes, lookin' boy. He's just trying to player hate the Knicks. Just mad that Bron might come here. Thats obvious! Funny how he mentions only NY by name and not Chicago, where he is rumored to possibly head. I see through this deception. Bastid.

Cheese Eyes??? WTF is that!!!

Lets put ol' milk curd eyes in perspective:

1. He is a figment of the market. Nobody did a better job to stay private than mike.

2. Lebron is a threat to his legacy. Mike is crazy competitive.

3. Lebron in NY could elevate his stature over mikes on a global basis.

4. Mike owns a part of the Bobcats and could become its majority owner. He has to protect the "small market" which is what he is.

5. whats good for NY is good for the league. He can only hope the knicks and nets become formatable without Lebron so there is the Cavs making money AND the 2 NY teams!

6. Does Lebron shoe sales eat into "Jumpman" sales at nike?

Mike was a great player but he might not be a great person. In fact, I'd say his marriage cheating and gambling ways have caused him much grief in his life. Mike didn't quit baskeball to play baseball and save the world from the MONSTARS in Space Jam, he had a serious gambling problem, a mild nervous breakdown, and was told to chill out by Stern.

Thats the movie I want to see, not some cartoon movie with him and Lola Bunny!

Yeah, Nalod. No doubt the insecurity over his legacy is wrapped up in his statement...Silver lining is that if the Lebron-to-NY stuff was just a weak ass rumor, cats like MJ wouldnt be speaking on it publicly.

Ya'll ready for 2010?

The franchise may have been a joke in prior years, but by no means is chicago a small market. The thing about jordans era is he played against dozens of hall of famers where as LJ has played against a handfull.Imo it sounds like he's protecting his legacy by still being the greatest player ever or most famous.

I don't like jordan because people have died wearing his sneakers and they continue to be over priced and stocked in limited quantities to make people go crazy for them.

Fuck what Jordan says. He's still the greatest to play ever...Fuck his life.

"[LeBron has] made his mark in Cleveland. I know New York fans would love to have him, but you need a lot more components than just one player. He's done a heck of a job in Cleveland and they deserve to have him there. He's from that area.

"In terms of the game itself, small markets can benefit from it a lot more than the big markets can. That's not a discredit to New York at all."

wasn't really all that much to be angry about in this statement if u ask me... he wasn't dissing NY in any way, just saying Lebron has built a legacy in CLE & the market there deserves to have him stay there... nothing really wrong w/that... Lebron's gonna do what Lebron wants to do in the end.

Not that he was necessarily dissing or hating, just interesting that he has such a vested interest in giving a negative opinion about Lebron coming to New York. I've never heard him say anything like this before.

u'd figure he'd want Lebron to go to NY & cash in by signing him to an Air Jordan marketing deal... but regardless, Jordan is the last one to talk here, he used to feed the media hype of him possibly being interested in playing in NY too during his day if i recall correctly.

Michael's mentoring has certainly done wonders for Kwame Brown. LBJ has the ability to become bigger than Michael on a world-wide level. That said, I think Michael allowed himself to become marketed better than any player in NBA history. I would think most of that was his marketing/pr team on not his own business acumen (how long until he moves on to his third front office?). I don't know if he really understands marketing well enough to give that advice, but Lebron could become iconic without NY if he starts collecting chips. He would become iconic without the chip if he came to NY. He could surpass Jordan if he came to NY and won a chip. Does Lebron need NY? No, he doesn't. All other things being equal, I'd think he'd recognize the benefits of being in the capital of the world.

Hold on a second - lets slow down here for a minute...Lebron will not surpass Jordan without winning at least 6 Championships and a bunch of league MVPs. Stats alone in an era where there are not as many legit superstars or future hall of famers do not make you better than Jordan. If anything, Kobe has more of a right to claim the throne than Lebron. Sure people will love Lebron and he will be marketed, but Jordan was on a totally different level and I dont think it had anything to do with the size of the market he played in, he was bigger than the market and for a long time defined the game (he still does in many ways - we just dont have commercials with him blasting 24/7). Even if Lebron becomes an icon, without winning chips he will be forgotten quickly, just another media creation who couldnt live up to his talent.

I dont even think he should be called "King" James until he wins something.

You must be nuts. Clearly, I am discussing marketing. First, surpassing another person on a marketing level does not require that he get the same number of rings. Second, Kobe will never be as overwhelmingly marketable because of the rape case. I agree that Michael became bigger than the game, but he destroyed that with his quirky antics. Retiring, playing baseball, failing, un-retiring, re-tiring, buying a piece of the wizards, selling his piece of the wizards so he could un-retire to play for the Wizards (of all teams?), retiring again, buying a piece of the Bobcats. He destroyed his identity. Lebron has the ability to surpass Michael based upon marketability. Stats will be hard to do-- Kobe is in the best position to do that, but no player has the same potential marketability as Lebron right now. If he wins a chip in NY, he will not be forgotten.

I still think Lebron has a long way to go to outshine MJ as the basketball king of marketing. He does have potential, I will give you that - but I don't see tons of little kids putting posters of Lebron dunking on their walls - I could be wrong though. MJ had a signature dunk, we all know it, its his icon now. Until they figure out how to do that with Lebron he can do all the soft drink and insurance commercials he wants, it still wont equal Air Jordan.

In my opinion the Bulls are really in the best position to compete for a championship for years to come. If Paxson has a semblance of brain which is up for question you do the following during the season.

1. Trade Deng/Thomas to the Raptors for Chris Bosh and resign him in the offseason
2. Look to move Hinrich for any expiring deal or young talent, the Blazers are the first team that I would call
3. Let Ben Gordon walk

That gives you the following core going into next season Rose, Salmons, Bosh, Noah. Which almost certaintly gets you in the finals every year for the next 8.

No one can offer that kind of talent. The Raptors would be fools not to take that deal as thomas is perfect next to big italian, and deng has good upside.

???????

gordon bailed their asses out every game against boston.

noah's a great young hustle player and rose could be something really special over time. salmon's mediocre and happened to play his best ball in the one playoff series and bosh is still a big question mark in terms of ability to anchor a winning team.

that core almost certainly gets you in the finals every year for the next 8????

Mike is free to comment on whatever he wants but you can definitely read between the lines and see that he is looking to protect his legacy, one of which he could not accomplish in a small market, and he doesn't want to see another team like the Knicks possibly being the vehicle that helps LeBron achieve the title of "greatest of all time" be it player or marketable personality.

Knowing LeBron's arrogance I doubt anything anyone has to say will influence his decision all that much. He's either going to stay in Cleveland, again on a small 3 year extension, or he's going to jump ship for a big market city.

There's really not much to discuss is there....he's got two choices, one of which has several possible destinations, and we're an entire year away from knowing.

Until then it's all fluff.

If they make a trade for chris bosh that was mention, and Lebron decides to come to the bulls please tell me how that team doesn't waltz to the finals?

Rose is going to be an allstar and one of the four best players that his position in the entire NBA and can't be stop off the dribble, neither can Lebron. Bosh will get single coverage to operate whenever he wants and noah can provide the energy. All they really need is a few low cost shooters which are easily available.

Lebron is on a team with no one that can get to the rim, Rose is one of the best in the nba already at that, and Noah can guard 4/5 and is as quick as any big man from end to end.

If you don't think that team gets it down I don't know what you have been watching. That is three allstars in the lineup each with different skills.

Gordon is a good player but not for 11 million a year, you are switching Lebron for gordon essentially.

The core you stated was Bosh, Rose and filler. Of course if you add Lebron to that mix it becomes a championship contender. I don't see Lebron in Chicago though.
