The Hawks have reportedly been working hard to find a taker for forward Josh Smith in recent weeks.

Atlanta is in a tough situation financially, as both Mike Bibby and Marvin Williams are free agents.

Smith has a history of disagreements with coach Mike Woodson, and would likely be coveted on the trade market.

However, there is a $6 million trade kicker attached to his contract, which could scare some teams off.

"You are going to see very few owners willing to do things like that anymore," one GM said. "I'm not saying he's impossible to trade. There are a few owners like Paul Allen, James Dolan, Mark Cuban and maybe Daniel Gilbert who would pay the money. But there aren't many."

Josh Smith would be great, he matured a lot as a player in his battle vs KG last yr & this past season. D'Antoni would get the best out of him as well. That 6mil trade kicker is a killer though.

We could go Al Harrington, Jeffries #8 for Josh Smith & #19

They could take Mullens at #8 to compliment Hortford.

I'd love to get this cat and I think everyone on the board would jizz in their pants if the Knicks got him....Al Harrington would be a nice replacement for Marvin...sheeeeet anything not to sign David Lee to a over priced contract.

Josh smith is probably the PERFECT Power/Small Forward to put with out Earl of Pudding Danillo.

I would make this deal in a heart beat. If it takes Lee and our pick you have to do it.

Whatever it takes. This guy is a cornerstone. If you want something that's going to attract Lebron, it's Josh Smith! Perfect player for our team and our system.

Well since they want to save money, the knicks should just trade their pick and filler for Smith. I'm not sure they want Lee 10 million per if they don't want Josh smith a 10million per.

i don't see that deal working w/Fishlips in there... the whole point of trading Josh is so that they'd have the cap space to re-sign Bibby & Marvin Williams.

i can see maybe an offer of the #8 & Mobley's contract peaking their interest if Jordan Hill or Demar Derozan are still on the board at #8, but personally if Derozan or Hill were still on the board at #8 i'd just as soon take those guys & keep the cap space freed up... Josh is a tremendous athlete but he's not a polished offensive player as yet either... i think u can easily get 16 / 7 / 1.5 type production or better out of Derozan or Hill after they've had a couple years to acclimate to the NBA & they won't cost u $12 mil per over the next 4 years either.

NO to Smith unless they want Curry or Jeffries (which they don't).
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

I would not trade the 8 but an offer of Harrington and Mobley for Smith and filler would be perfect IMO.

lets get past the flashy play, do you guys really see Josh Smith being a factor deep in the playoffs? He's not really a cornerstone to me, just a guy that looks great in Jan-Mar.

reason I say this is if we sign a big name free agent in 2010, then we will be looking for Smith to be the Robin, and I just dont see that in him. Plus his salary really compromises our future plans. I dont think as a talent he's worth it. An athletic, fun player to watch but thats about it to me.

he is stupid as shyt. for every highlight dunk.....he makes 3 turnovers and takes 2 dumb threes. Josh's attitude (real or percieved) hasn't won any fans in the organization. Thats why they are doing this more so than money. They know they made a mistake with this cat.

I'n not a fan of Josh Smith. He does some amazing things but is not a guy I'd want to build a team around. His effort is not consistent, and he makes a lot of $.

Sebster....I agree with you 100%.

Did orangeblobman say "cornerstone"?

Josh Smith has been great for the game summary clips but his lowlights include flipping off fans (at home no less), feuding with his head coach for 2 seasons, suspect shot selection that rivals World B Free, pouting openly (sound familiar?) and generally not understanding his role in a team context.

There is a reason the talented Hawks were easily swept by the Cavs. Cornerstones don't get swept.

It wasn't even close.

Unless Mike D'Antoni knows the precise formula for connecting with Smith, converting raw energy and ego into something team-oriented and generous his acquisition would be more trouble that it is worth.

and that is without consideration of the distractions of New York

Yeah but you guys are crowning him Cornerstone and Robin for no reason....he's a piece that fits around the ones we already have....Wilson, Gallo...a point guard is coming and so is a center....Knicks are trying to build something here...a team. Josh Smith would be a big part in that.

josh smith is not willing to play a team game or learn how to play the game. woodson tells him not to take 3's and he keeps jacking them up (with woodson shaking his head in the background). josh smith is someone that looks nice on paper...but not a guy i want on a team.

With Smith's salary and approach to the game, he's not just going to be a "piece"...he's going out there every game like he's Kobe. The Kobe of old. He just doesnt play with a team-oriented mindset. He's talented tho.

Smith is one of them Sportscenter, All-Stars. Thank god, Zeke is gone, he would made sure a trade would have happened. A draft pick for Josh Smith? Man, you know Isiah would have been all over that like white on rice. Or by Zeke's philosophy, like Black on Wesley Snipes.
