Jim Calhoun--aged 67 and three time cancer survivor fell on a 50 mile bike race yesterday at mile 12 and broke 5 ribs yet COMPLETED the 50 mile course when he collapsed from dehydration. Maybe this is a case of tough but not thinking rationale-still wow.

Upon being checked at the hospital, Calhoun was informed he had broken five ribs during his fall, which occurred about 12 miles into the ride. Calhoun hit a pothole and went over the handlebars. He had to wait about an hour for a bike mechanic to arrive and replace his damaged wheel, and his leg injuries were also treated during this time. Then Calhoun got back on the bike, riding the remaining 38 miles with five broken ribs.

That's impressive. As I recall, the Connecticut basketball program wasn't very successful until he took over.

Sounds like he was on some PEDs. They should give him a blood test.

How hard is it to ride a bike with a few broken ribs? Answer: not hard at all. If he biked the remaining 38 miles with 2 broken legs I would be more impressed.

A 67 year old man who broke 5 ribs during the ride and still went the other 38 miles?

I think he was being facetious.

Have you ever tried to breath with a broken rib? How about breathing while biking 38 miles with five broken ribs?
