http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/59694/20090609/boston_houston_and_new_york_want_2nd_overall_pick/
The Grizzlies have been approached by several teams about acquiring the second overall pick. Boston, Houston and New York are said to be among the most recent suitors.

Boston and Houston would likely have to offer an established NBA player or two, given that neither team owns a first-round pick. New York owns the eighth pick and likely would want to move up for the opportunity to take Ricky Rubio.

i think we have the best chance to land the pick ill tell you why

-ny is a big market
-like hahn said nike can pay for his buyout or oart
-d antoni will like him
-he can start for us
-we may not have the assets but we have the contract
-rubio seems to like us
-if we trade our 8th pick they can draft hill

god il be soo happy if we land rubio since curry will be gone with our 8th pick then since the economy is down we can hopefully draft mullens and we will be set for next year

I can't see either team giving up enough to get the second, as unstopaball12 said they don't have a pick. Also, Memphis probably doesn't want to take on any big salaries. Having the 8th pick and that Mobley contract might be tempting for them. I just don't know about trading Chandler as that is what it might take...

yea but what will memphis want more? it says there that the other two teams can offer established NBA players.

edit: no way on the chandler. chandler is as much of a keeper as i've ever seen in my life. this kid is going to be super special, one of our cornerstones for a decade.

Who could Boston deal?

The Rockets could offer Landry/Scola/pick... but is that enough?

The Knicks could offer Chandler or Gallo and the eighth or expirings and the eighth

For once I think the Knicks could legitimately offer the best package

Agree with that.

Personally, I think the Knicks don't have to offer either Gallo or Chandler since Memphis would probably be more interested in unloading a contract like Darko's and taking Mobleys insured contract. I could be wrong, but I think the Knicks are in the drivers seat here.

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking. They would save in a variety of ways:
Get a player who wants to play there.
Save salary with the difference between 8 and 2
Save 7 million off the Darko for Mobley trade with the insurance.

That is really not a bad deal, but let's see what the other teams offer. Also, I don't think Boston would want Rubio...

More unconfirmed media dribble.

Catch this: Every team from pick 2 through pick 60 would like to have the #2 pick in the 09 NBA Draft.

Incredible!!!!

If Rubio is the goods the 8th pick and Gallo should get it done. Then Rubio/Chandler/Lee is a very nice core for the future. I would then seriously look into the following deal of Mobley and Hughes for Tracy McGrady. I just don't like Larry on the team.

Duhon-Tracey-Chandler-Lee-Curry with a bunch of Rubio-Harrington-Jefferies go with that and try and build the value of curry and jefferies

Nah, it doesnt seem like just the usual crap. This seems like there has at least been talks with Memphis about the potential of something happening.

No chance do we give up Gallo for Rubio. Gallo can help now. We need shooters for when Lebron is here (and bigs that can shoot, pass, have IQ and handle the rock like Gallo are rare.) I'd sooner give up Chandler but wouldn't even do that. They should be happy getting the 8th plus saving 7.5 million with the Mobley for Darko deal. Unless we can buy a teens pick and add that to the 8 for the 2 to lock this deal down...

That would be funny. I think Marbury is an FA, though. I don't think he signed a multi-year deal with Boston. Maybe we can bring him back! (I'm just kidding, Allanfan! )

If we did get the #2, I think I would prefer to get Thabeet over Rubio. Its not a knock on Rubio at all but I would prefer to get a guy like Thabeet and get a PG later in this draft or at another time then spend a #2 on one.

thabeet could end up mediocre, rubio has franchise pg written all over him.

I understand that. They are both boom or bust type of players, Rubio isn't a sure thing though he seems like he has less bust factor then Thabeet.

But Elite Pgs like Kidd, Nash, Paul, Williams never won a championship with there clubs. Late rd PGs like Parker & Rondo have though. You can also win without a stud PG, but unless you have Jordan & Pippen on your team you aren't going to win without a stud big man.

Thabeet may not be that franchise center at the end of the day, But he could be a piece that makes a franchise frontcourt.

Following the Orlando style a little, You have Thabeet who could attack the offensive glass hard, and patrol the paint on the defensive end, If we could spread the floor with 2 forwards that can drop 3s as well as play good man defense and allow Thabeet to go one on one for offensive rebounds where he can get his pts. Add that with a speedy PG that can beat his man off the dribble and draw defenders to create for everyone else, and a stud *scoring* that can take over offensively when needed, and we have the makings of a contender.
