Assuming we find a way to get random assets back for Nate and Lee, draft Curry, and sign Gortat (all reasonable assumptions)

IS:

PG Curry (Duhon)
SG Hughes (QRich)
SF Chandler (Harrington)
PF Gallinari (Jeffries)
C Gortat (Curry?)

a playoff team?

Note that I realize Chandler/Gallinari probably wouldn't start together at F from the get-go, but I would like to hope that they mature and develop to be a nice starting forward combo in the mold of Hedo and Rashard. I like the general youth movement of that team-- and Hughes could easily be replaced by a shooting guard we draft with a bought pick later in the draft.

Well 2 things:

1) What are the random assets we are getting back for Lee and Nate? (I pray it's not from Portland) Just remember, those are assets that should definitely be able to crack the rotation.

2) Why can't Chandler and Gallinari start together? Other than the fact that they don't rebound that much (Thabeet would be perfect at the center in that case) I actually think they compliment eachother quite well.

Duhan Starts until displaced based on merit.
The Mayor is Shooting guard, always hurt Hughs is backup.
Q starts, Gallo finishes
Curry starts, Gortat is the backup until Curry is traded.
Dlee starts, Jeffries backs up.

Or.....

Rubio (Duhan)
Chandler (Hughes)
Gallo (Q)
Curry (Euro Jumpshot)
Darko (Jeffries)

Coo Coo Cocoa puffs Nate is exiled, Dlee gets us Rubio.

Im thinking we all wrong and big changes are in store.

No... I don't think so but I do think

Kidd/Curry
Hughes/gulp
Chandler/Harrington
Gallo/Harrington
whoever Duhon can be traded for/Jeffries/Curry

could be a playoff team

No it is not and this is why I throw a ranting fit every time I see a thread pushing to sign some other team's role player with the hope it makes us good. How exactly is that roster going to compete? It can't and it won't and that's why I try to say outside of a maximum of six players on today's roster you'd be lucky to see at most three of them on the future roster heading towards the 2010-2011 season. So in that I don't see the point of wondering if a Gortat, or a Stephon Curry, or whoever would be a great find or addition to this team. It won't be for those guys aren't star players who can carry teams and you can't add a role player and think it's going to turn a team full of role players into a playoff bound team.

Gallo is an unknown due to injury and youth. Chandler is grossly overrated here. Hughes is a chucking fool as we all knew even before he came here. Duhon can't carry the load as we saw. Q's body has failed him and turned him into an inconsistent undependable player. Eddy is a slob. Jeffries is a terribly overrated "intangibles" player who does everything equally terrible.

How on earth is that roster anything more than a 32 win team? It's not.

We need to get our heads in the game as a fan base and understand this roster is not meant to compete, it is not meant to be added to as if it is a solid core of players to improve upon, and the majority won't be here in another 13 months anyway.

We're rebuilding folks. The right way. That way is you tear down all the garbage first, disregard who you got in return in the short term as financial relief and nothing more, and understand that until July 2010 you won't know what is going on roster wise because THAT is the date you can actually start ADDING PLAYERS to a clean slate roster.

Until then, honestly, enough with the scrubs and 2nd round picks, etc. They're all part of a pointless discussion.

I actually think Gortat could end up being good... he plays behind Dwight Howard, is coached by Pat Ewing, and looks good in limited minutes, has an NBA body... but it is a risk for certain and I don't see how taking those types of risks entices LeBron James or puts the team in the financial position to do so.

Gortat is a good back up. He isn't starting material.

I would actually be fine with that rotation even knowing we weren't making the playoffs. I just want to see this team grow together with a nucleus. Curry/Chandler/Gallinari could be that core.

Gortat is a good role player to fill in if we need to jettison DLee. With Eddy, he could really do what we need him to do unitl Eddy is cap fodder and moved out.

GOrtat is a role player, not a savior.

Im also thinking JJ Riddick is ready for prime time. Not a star, but in the MDA way he can shoot, run and play defense. Think a younger Q but a better passer. He needs confidence gotten from playing in a system where he can get his shots and know his role.

He'll look good next to Rubio.

Gortat sucks... he's an improvement over Fishlips or Curry, which isn't saying too much.

I think we'd need to bring Lee back in addition to drafting Curry and signing Gortat to make the playoffs.

He doesnt suck. He does one thing well that we need - play defense down low.

He blocks shots and defends the paint. I'd take him on this team.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

3.8 pts. / 4.5 rpg in 12.6 mpg... dude, he sucks.

i love how every scrub role player that shows a slimmer of play during a playoff series suddenly becomes the answer to our problems on this forum... this guy is Big Turd part deux, gimme a break... don't look at him as any answer to anything... like i said he's a slight upgrade over Fishlips, which isn't much to hang your hat on.

?

First of all it's 12 MPG playing behind Dwight Howard. Second of all, I don't care how much he scores. If you've seen him play you know he plays some great D and is great on the pick and roll. He's mobile, unlike Jerome. He also doesn't have an injury history like Jerome did. C'mon man. If you've seen him more than 5 minutes you know this guy isn't Jerome James. I'm not saying he's amazing. He's a backup on a great team. But on this team he is the starting center averaging close to or 10+ rebounds a game and blocking a shot or two a game. Slight upgrade over Jeffries? No. This guy is a defensive presence. This is a fact. I'm not the only one who says that either.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

i've watched him play... he's a scrub... Jefferies would be a scrub playing behind Dwight Howard too, what's that got to do w/anything? lol.

i already gave u his damn stats... what else do u want from my life? i've watched him play, he's a Jared Jefferies-esque player w/very limited offensive skills, a guy that is in there to use up some fouls, play a little defense & make a few hustle plays... he stinks, i dunno how much more succinctly i can put if for u... if u happen to have a hardon for this guy's skills, that's on you... i don't share your point of view.

You gave me his stats? So he's gonna average a double double in 12 MPG?
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

dude, not everyone has to agree w/u on players... i dunno what your problem is w/the fact that i think Gortat's a scrub, which he is... averaging 4 & 5 in 12 mpg doesn't mean he's gonna be a double double guy as a fulltime starter... if u believe that then Jerome James would be an alltime legend w/his 28 / 14 / 5 averages per 48 mpg this year... please... there's a reason this guy only sees 12 mpg, he sucks... in this Finals so far he's averaging 4 & 7 in 17mpg while shooting 38% from the field, even worse #'s than his regular season stats & you somehow think he's the answer to our problems at C? ok, if u say so.
