interesting.

when discussing defense, he first says we weren't good defensively, but although some might say these are excuses...it sort of reveals what are the key factors mike d wants for his team to succeed... particularly with the combo of talent that suits his approach.

basically he says:

1) we are one of the smaller teams (this is true)

2) not amongst the most athletic (an argument for some of the guys some highly covet in the draft here -- deronzan/evans)

3) we had several games that were close late, but it was not just defense that hurt us but that other teams would then have their star player (he lists, kobe, wade lebron...hmmmm) take over where as we didn't really have someone to do that.

so, this will probably drives the "defense over everything wins championships bring back jeff van gundy" mantra folks, which i do think you need, but what he is saying is that the knicks need a star.

interestingly, when he was asked about why he joined the team, part of what he said, more than once, was that walsh had "a plan," which was very convincing.

let's hope that plan is that the deam of one of the guys we listed coming here is really that likely.

Yep.
He basically sad that we have no players who can defend... and no stars to take over the game.
In other words we have only one way to improve - to get players which can do both this things individually or/and collectively.
Looks like rocket sciene. Right?
So the plan is/was to get in the position of bringing this "misterious" players in.
Hmm... Looks like it works.

also what was funny was when he's asked about the night duhon had 22 assists, and he's like..."well, first it was because it was against golden state, they aren't exactly the best defensive team."

lol...you have to get a kick out of his honesty sometimes.

actually, in general, teachers, coaches, and other such types who can be funny at times and honest can get a whole lot of juice from whoever they are managing. of course, in this case it's fans, but how many of us thought the same thing before he said that? a lot. better to put it out there and joke about it than completely avoid things. not saying he does this all of the time, and i think when it comes to folks who criticize his defense, i get a sense he gets irked by it, but part of it is that he believes, and has already shown success, that if you get him the right players he will win.

some will say the suns didn't win a title...okay sure, but not only were they basically amongst the most exciting and best teams in the league, but for all you "the refs ruin the nba" folks...they sure hurt phx in that conference finals against the spurs.

too bad tina could do more than a bit better as an interviewer....

actually, why is she even on msg? anyway...

mike d sells things very well, but i don't think it's a salesmen routine, but that he truly think he believes in what he is saying, and it is about seeing things from multiple perspectives which i also happen to support, and different than what we had with isiah and brown.

notice how he really seems to think about things from other people's pov, aka empathetic...up to a point (i.e. steph was shown the door early on...however, while it's imperative any teacher/coach/parent/guardian to be empathetic you have to draw the line somewhere, even if you don't want to)

that's what i've noticed early on and why i've generally supported him for us.

he's the best coach we've had since riley, imho.

I like when TT was telling Chandler he's got to let the game come to him.
Yeah, but it would have been nice if TT *sometimes* aggressively went after his game.

TKF and others you are of course welcome. Give thanks to Elite for bringing this to my attention. I'm pretty sure I will also be able to offer the 99 Knicks run to the Finals program tomorrow some time so stay tuned.

Panos: Yeah TT is a good guy - I think the problem is people expected him to be a superstar and it was never in the cards. If you thought of him as an NBDL callup you'd be happy with everything he ever did. Sorry to see him go for a second time. Always liked him for whatever reason.

Ike: Tina is not just sexy but she is well spoken and actually knows what she is talking about. Much like Deb Kaufmann and Jill Martin. They all do well and give us a bit of eye candy all the same. What's to complain about?

Also as said for a change the facts about the team came out and were allowed to come out. Mike was very honest and they let it be broadcast. I was surprised at that. Makes me wonder what was censored out... heh.

so basically we're a small team that lacks any defense & not the most athletic... so we're focusing on a smallish offensive player that isn't particularly athletic... makes perfect sense in the world of the Knicks.

He's big for a point guard though.

He's big for a point guard though.

Is he a Marbury-esque PG though? A scorer with a handle.....hasn't gotten anyone very far in any league.

We need a floor general who if his team needs him he can take over and score. I know that isn't exactly a well stocked pond but it is what we need and if Curry is yet another Marbury (mental garbage aside...just playing style) then no thanks.

The problem yet again that we face is that at #8 we're likely to get another role player and well we're 15 deep in those so what good does it do?

At best what happens here? We draft Curry and then trade Nate to dump Jeffries or ECity?

I wouldn't be upset with that but the pick alone isn't going to do much for us IMO.

I think the idea that the Knicks might have a deal in place to move up to the top 5 - giving up Lee - might just have more legs than we know.

Personally I would prefer the opposite - having a deal in place to move down while dumping ECity or Jeffries in the process.

19 days to go....but even then there might not be a trade done on draft day but a trade done over the summer swapping the rights to drafted players.
