LeBron James underwent a successful surgery on Tuesday to remove a right benign parotid growth (near the right jaw).

The parotid gland is the largest of the salivary glands.

James and his family have been aware of this medical issue for several months, but with the clearance of the treating doctors and medical staff, decided to wait until the conclusion of the Cavaliers season to undergo the removal procedure.

The 2008-09 MVP is recovering at the Cleveland Clinic and will soon be returning home to his family.

James is expected to make a full and complete recovery and his doctors are confident that no further procedures will be needed.

I hate to ask this guys and if you consider it a dumb question well I apologize in advance but does anyone know if this has anything to do with the C word?

Hmmm... I hope he is checking out his liver too. My cousin had to have hers removed but she had Lupus and her immune system was out of whack. So she got constant inflamations and high fevers.

Mine were swollen when I let my GERD get out control years ago but I didn't need to have them remove. Just painful and annoying as hell.

my wife had hers removed- 10 years ago, just a tumor removed- she had a recurrance, and then had to have her whole gland scraped out and then 6 weeks of radiation - mind you, benign tumor.

Just something that happens to some people- and you have to be careful as you can end up with multiple tumors there. The big risk in surgery is cutting the facial nerve.

My first thought, also.

If it were malignant then there would be something to worry about. That is why they waited for the season to be over with.
