"Wilson Chandler, the Knicks' most pleasant surprise of last season, is expected to have surgery on his left ankle to move a bone spur, a league source said last night.

Chandler played in all 82 games in his second year in the NBA and was planning on playing for the Knicks in the summer league starting July 10 in Las Vegas. But ankle surgery would keep him sidelined for six weeks." - NYPost

More minutes for Chris Hunter and Mouhamed Sene to audition at center.

Fix the 4-5 spots and you fix the Knicks.

yea i don't think he needs summer league, and you really want to see other people play.

at least we shouldn’t have to deal with the nate at sl issue this year

and Chris Hunter and Mouhamed Sene are pretty damn bad, aren't they?

Marv - If there is any player who needs to play Summer League it is a bulked up Jared Jeffries learning his role as a 265 pound defensive-minded center.

This is the last year with extra dreck on the roster.

I'm more concerned about the injury than his appearance in the Summer League.

...And why is he just now deciding to get surgery? When was this injury know about and how did he get it? Was he playing with the spurs last year?

I don't understand why they want to move the bone spur? I mean, shouldn't they just remove it or perhaps it's a strengthening procedure?

In all seriousness, it's ok for him to skip out on summer league. He tore it up last year, no need to prove himself again. Being sidelined for 4 - 6 weeks for a bone spur is alot. Guess it's really in there. That sucks as he is going to need to restrengthen those muscles and what not. For players with his type of athleticism he needs to be careful to not overcompensate too much.

Not sure if Wilson would've played anyway, but just in case he planned to, there's now an extra roster spot to invite an additional player. Look at it like that. I agree with EMS - there's nothing left for him to prove playing summer ball. Best of luck with the surgery and we'll see ya back next year ready to go dog...

Surgery is usually a last resort. Maybe they wanted to see how much healing would occur without it.

If they move the bone spur, then the problem will continue--just in a new location. So he'll need surgery again and they'll make more money. It's actually a brilliant plan. It's just like the dentist who tells his patients to eat lots of candy. You better e-mail James Dolan aboutt this plan you've uncovered.

Finestrg has it nailed

Without Gallinari (Nate) and Chandler The Summer League competition for an invite to training camp will be wide open

Along with the first round pick, if the Knicks can uncover two additional players who can make a rotational contribution it will be a huge success. I would settle for one new guy that no one saw on the radar.

Preferably a center.

LOL, Would be a perfect marriage... Doctor who moves bone spurs married to a dentist who recommends candy... (But bad Karma! )

Good points guys about more spots being opened in summer league. Depending on the draft and trades we may have 2 or so open spots up for grabs. Hopefully Robersons cousins stay away...

Just two? Is that all you're expecting? We called up half the D-League last year and couldn't uncover anything.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Guy played with a bone spur since February and didn't say squat about it. Didn't used it as an excuse. Just showed up to play in all 82 games. After the season he was still working out with the coaches while everyone took their undeserved vacations and planned on still participating in his 3rd SL. Please can we draft or acquire more guys like this.

I have to consult a doctor first to see where a bone spur in an ankle (which many NBA players play through because it only creates discomfort, not severe pain) is the same thing as a back injury involving a nerve and a bulging disk.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

I didn't know that many NBA players have surgeries for bone spurs every year. Surgeons must be raking in the dough from them then.
