I don't have many names in mind but these should be the goals of the offseason:

1. Sign and trade David Lee AND Nate Robinson. Robinson and Jeffries to the Kings for Kenny Thomas and a future pick. Revisit that deal. Also, try and shop David Lee for future lotto picks, like next year for example. Or aim higher and offer him up to a team like the Raptors as part of a package for Bosh and see what happens. Some people may not like Bosh but the dude has a far better offensive game than Lee and actually attempts to play D. Getting him would lure another big time FA here.

2. Acquire another late 1st rounder or a 2nd round pick for cash. We will have empty roster spots. Lets fill it with some young talent. We can't go wrong.

3. Try very hard to trade Jared Jeffries. Eddy Curry is untradeable. Maybe if we deal Eddy Curry with our #8 pick but that's about it. Include Jared in any deal with Nate or anyone else giving us expiring deals. His contract isn't nearly as bad as Eddy's but it's still terrible.

4. Acquire someone who plays interior defense. David Lee plays none and getting shot blocker to "play next to Lee" isn't worth it because Lee is no Amare or something. He ain't worth complimenting because he simply isn't that good. Obviously a shot blocker would fall under this category as well.

5. Draft/trade for a starting caliber PG. Duhon isn't as bad as people make him out to be. He just isn't starting material. As a backup he is fine.

6. Get rid of Quentin Richardson. Why the hell is this lazy, pathetic bum a captain? What kind of veteran leadership is he providing? He's a loser in all aspects and sucks bad on the court. Another Isiah guy. Ship him out of here ASAP. This guy is on Jerome James levels now.

7. Work with Wilson Chandler on his basketball IQ, his shot and his shot selection and teach him to drive more on defenders. Also teach him more than one spin move when he drives. People have caught up to it. Lets get him some creativity.

8. Re-sign Wilcox if he wants to come back for a cheap 1 year deal. If not, sayonara.

9. Acquire a real shooting guard. Larry Hughes is just a guard because he obviously is missing the "shooting" from shooting guard.

10. Get value from Al Harrington's nice stat season.

List your own goals for the offseason. What you want to see done, what should be done, etc.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

Learn to play some defense and man up. There are a lot of guys on this team that lack serious conjones and they know who they are. The injury excuses are old.
I don't like to play bad rookies , I like to play good rookies - Mike D'Antoni

Re-sign David Lee unless a deal too good to pass up becomes available

Try to trade up for Rubio[This is based on getting Dantoni his groceries--always try to get the players the coach wants if you can--but thats on him] if not go with either Curry Evans or Derozan--if you think you may need to move up to 5 to accomplish this[meaning getting the player you want--explore it. If none of these players are avialble--look to move back and pick up a 2010 first round pick without moving down to far--i.e pick 16 from Chicago and their 2010 restricted to 3.

Offer a future 1+2 +3mm in cash for Kosta Koufus if he is not available try to buy back into the draft as high as possible to get Mullens{i would still keep it on the table to acquire Mullens at 8 if need be]

Sign Morris Almond to the 1.5 LLE with the seond year at a team option

Be opportunistic with the MLE--if somehow Steve Nash would take it---go for it--if nothing of value is there--dont waste the space

S+T Nate Robinson with the intent on trying to get a 2010 or 2011 1st round pick

try to cut up Curry and Jefferies contracts through trade. I think its plausible with Jefferies--meaning taking on a longer salary while cutting his cap number--

Hopefully Curry comes back 40 pounds lighter and ready to go. who knows

Resign Wilcox 2 years 8mm with the last year not guaranteed

Lastly be opportunistic with our ending contracts--maybe we can pick up a player and a pick in a money transaction[payroll is significantly diminished so taking on 3-4mm or spending 3-6mm in the draft should not be an issue]

There are no long wish lists and this ain't Christmas

If Donnie Walsh could make three significant upgrades in the short Summer lasting about 3 months, it will be an accomplishment.

So, without the fanfare and outrageous greed for all things out of reach... Let's get real

1. Attempt the improbable of moving up at least five spots to grab the very marketable Rubio. If not, Draft wisely with the eighth pick. Willis Reed was a number 8 pick out of Grambling. So was Mike Sweetney.

2. Decide on the frontcourt big men. Use the Summer league to audition the late-season acquisitions and come into camp with at least three centers.

3. Manage the recovery and conditioning of Gallinari with all due dilligence.

4. Decide whether Jared Jeffries or Quentin Richardson belongs in the rotation and define a disciplined role for Al Harrington.

5. Look ahead to the 2010 Draft class and all the young big men coming into play.

1 - Come out of the draft with a size advantage at whatever position we draft. This would translate to Evans, Holiday, Derozan, Thabeet)

2 - Use the 2nd rounder to stash a player in Europe a la San Antonio.

3 - Don't use the MLE - you can only use it every two years, let's hold onto it
*If Artest will come over and play year to year... I'd reconsider

4 - Nate and Lee can't be used to bring back a long term contract unless its part of the post 2010 core, meaning Bosh, Nash, Amare, etc. So, if you uwse them in an S&T then its got to be for an expiring deal and picks. The goal would be to pull off a deal to get something back for them, and have that expiring player be something that can help us in 2009.

5 - Do whatever you have to do to get Curry in playing shape. Chase him around the gym with Michael Vick's dogs, I don't care. If his knees can't hold up, maybe you get an injury exception. (Is he completely uninsured, or just his heart? I have no real hope that he will play, but just for the sae of team pride, you can't let him just tae the knicks like he has been.

6 - Even if they are guys off the street to fill out the roster, make sure we can actually run the SpeedBall offense. If Duhon is too tired to run it up the floor, then pull him, same with any of the vets. There are guys playing in parks in New York who can get up and down the floor.

7 - LLE - I could see using it on Frye, he looks much more physical and we're going to have a huge hole at center no matter what happens. I think he could thrive at center here for one season trying to work for a 2010 contract.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

No, the MLE can be used every year. The LLE (also known as the Bi-Annual Exception) can only be used every other year.

Also, once we are under the cap in 2010, we won't have these so-called 'exceptions' to use.

1) Sign and trade Lee for an expiring contract and 2010 first round pick

2) I'd try and see if we could sign and trade Nate Robinson and filler to SAC for Kevin Martin. I'm pretty sure they were having some attendance problems this year and maybe Nate can put some fans back in the seats. I know Kmart has a long term contract but the money isnt ridiculous (he'll be set to make about $11 mil in 2010)

3) Try and trade up for Rubio but if we can't, then draft Curry at pg. Having him and K-Mart in the backcourt would be lethal and theyve got 2 of the quickest releases in basketball.

4) Try and trade Mobley's expiring contract and one of our 2010 2nd round picks to Clippers for Camby (would be a nice stopgap for the season and we wouldnt be giving up much)

5) Pray really hard that Curry can lose some weight

6) Trade Jeffries and one of our expirings for one really large expiring contract if any team is willing to bite

C: Camby/Curry
PF: Harrington/Gallinari
SF: Chandler/Gallinari
SG: K-Mart/Larry Hughes
PG: Curry/Duhon

1) Draft S. Curry
2) S&T Lee to Portland for $10m (Base Year Contract value= $5M) for T. Outlaw and S. Rodriguez. We can ask for Bayless also, but I doubt they do that.
3) N. Rob and Jeffries to SacTown (if it still works under the cap... doubt it though...)
4) Curry + 2012 1st Rd to Memphis for Marko and Darko.
5) M. Gortat $10m over 3 years using part of the MLE.
6) M. Lampe $9m over 3 years using the rest of the MLE
7) C. Frye using the LLE (2 years $4.2M)
8) Trade Mobley (insured) and a 2nd pick for M. Camby.

PG Curry/S.Rod/Du-doo
SG Hughes/Chandler/Marko
SF Outlaw/Gallo/QRich
PF Harrington/Frye
C Camby/Gortat/Darko/Lampe

1 - no matter what, get max value out of the #8 pick... if the BPA isn't all that great, then trade down & nab 2 prospects... if Derozan is there then take him & don't look back
2 - make a trade to get a 2010 1st round pick
3 - get Curry's fat ass in shape
4 - get Gallo in good condition to play in Summer League
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.

1. Sign a PG to build on. If it's Rubio, then find a way to get him. No-one should be untochable in any scenario to get him if he is 'the guy'.

2. Get some value from Lee and Nate in a sign and trade. Future draft picks would be ideal in any package. Trades for other RFA's would work if they are a better compliment to MDA's system.

3. Get rid of Q, Curry and jeffries.

4. Don't take on salary

2. Get Gallo healthy

1) find a way to sign-and-trade for kobe, lebron, bosh and nash over the summer

otherwise...

it's beyond obvious that walsh is a total failure, and all the talk of d'antoni being good at attracting stars is hype.

sounds logical to me.
