"There are a lot of great players in this draft. We're in a good spot to get a good player or to possibly use that player in a trade," Ernie Grunfeld said in a telephone interview. "We feel comfortable with the fifth pick, but we are going to explore our options to see what can make us the best possible team next year. But we feel, if we have all of our pieces out there, it would be hard for any young player to come in and break into the lineup -- even if it was the first pick."

I'm not sure you get a better player at 5 than what you'll get at 8. Certainly not one worth the difference in cost IMO. The only way it will make sense is if Rubio drops b/c of his buyout.

Reflection of how poor this draft class is.

would love to trade up but we have little to offer other than Chandler & Gallo... anyway that team was 1 of the worst in the NBA last year & they're worried that a good young player won't be able to break into their rotation? sounds like some Knick fans' reasoning right there.

If you could get Lee to agree to a deal with Washington, I would have them pick a guy we want at 5 and then send Lee packing for the 5th pick and cap fodder as soon as a deal can be consummated.

they won't be interested in Lee when they have Jamison & McGee... Nate would be more interesting to them IMO.

Lee would make a great frontcourt mate for Jamison (since the rest of the starters don't play D either) with McGee/Blatche coming off the bench to the fill the 4/5.

sorry, i don't see it... McGee is a much better fit w/Jamison & they also still have Haywood... Lee won't sign w/WAS to be a backup PF.

what a strange team - can they even count on Arenas being healthy?

Derozan, Holiday or Evans would be really nice pieces for them. It might help unload some of their roster someday since they have one of the worst payroll situations in the league along with Indiana.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

I thought under NBA rules teams cannot negotiate with free agents until July 1st. In which case, Lee can't agree to anything until a week after Draft Night. I think Lee might end up taking a qualifying offer from the Knicks when he sees that no one is willing to break the bank on him.

Yeah but eVil, whose to say the Wizards don't get some 3rd party guy to negotiate with Lee and feel him out... I mean honestly, this stuff happens.

I think the Knicks really like Lee and when all is said and done, they just offer him a contract, but let him test the market regardless.

Nate on the other hand is different. Either he's gone or he takes the QO.

to me, this seems like this could happen. his buyout may make it a challenge for the teams above the wiz to expect to get him.

thanks for this, now you're back on top of the news senor su, even if you still have some kind of desire to enter the cage wit me.

Many more teams will have more money in 2010 and it may be a calculated gamble to wait till 2010 to hit FA to make even more money.

A lot of teams will refrain from spending this offseason to keep money free to make a run at the top FA's.

Why would it be difficult for teams above him if all teams adhere to the same restrictions. The majority of Rubio's 6 million Euros will have to come out of his pocket. That's why guys stay overseas until their contract is up or their buyout is more reasonable.
