What is the story about next year draft pick to Utah?

where have you been?

Its been protected all this time. Next year, it goes regardless of position.

What I would want to know is if there is anyway for us to send Utah this years pick.

Its been protected, obviously, to protect us. Any way for us to tell the league office we're sending this year's pick instead?

I keep forgetting that we have to give them a pick because I can't believe we have to give a pick for a piece of garbage like marbury

I'm sure if the Jazz and Walsh came to an agreement they could send it this year. That won't happen though. I get the feeling both Donnie/D'Antoni think this team is going to be in the playoffs next year.

we gave more than just one 2st round pick for marbury, that's for sure.

try two, plus all those players (McDyess, Ward, Eisley, Lampe, rights to Vujanic), and we also got Penny and Trybanski.

basically every year since the deal was made to phx (who traded the pick to utah) protection kept going away until 2010 when there will be no more protection remaining.

Yea- but if you are Utah, you want next years pick, not this year for 2 reasons -1 we could be worse and 2 - next year's draft can't be worse than this years talent.

Walsh couldn't do it because basically he'd be confessing that he thinks we'll be worse next year. And in Dolan's world, that is a no no.

Personally (if I'm Utah), I would trade for it this year. This team played well enough for a stretch this year to make the playoffs (as sad as that is), add in a few different players and another year under MikeD and I think this team makes the playoffs next year.

i don't think utah expects us to be worse either. if i'm utah i probably want this year's pick, although next year's draft is supposedly stronger in terms of up top, this year's has decent players top to bottom.

most people would expect us to be a bit better than 32 wins next year.

look, what does it say about the orginization's feelings about the team's future if the knicks give utah the #8 pick in the draft?

it goes against all of the psychological views on how important high expectations are for getting people to improve.

in other words, if the knicks think the team will fail next year, guess what....they'll fail, and how does that help getting guys like lebron or whoever to join the team if we are a top 5 lotto team next year?

allanfan, hence why we will probably pick a pg in this draft, and even one of the msg analysts said that he thinks if the knicks take a pg, that the may try to sign and trade nate.

the team is going to be better, i'd bet some money on it if i was a betting man (which i am not).

i doubt we make a drastic change to the team this summer (unless a major star is coming now) so the team will be all here for training camp with mike d.

healthy gallo

guessing improvement from lee and nate (if they both come back).

1st round pick this year

maybe a signing of a free agent.

point is to think we are sure to be the same team next year is very defeatist and a poor way to approach things for a team trying to get better.

we aren't the memphis grizzlies.

With our luck, we'll scrap and barely miss the playoffs next year. We'll follow that by winning the lotto from the 14 slot. Yeah, it can be that bad.

No. Our own pick is the one we traded and owe to Utah via Phoenix. We can't trade for another pick and give it to Utah. Our pick is the one that had conditions on it when it was traded.

Walsh should do all he can to trade for a pick in next year's draft... using D Lee or Nate in a S&T should be high on his to do list for either this offseason or by the trade deadline next season.
