The Knicks need a center and Gortat might be an excellent pick up. He is tough and probably would be better served to sign him instead of Lee. Make him an offer and the Knicks might get him a lot cheaper than Lee while filling a hole at center. The Knicks have plenty of PFs on the team who can replace Lee.

Watched him last night. He looks like a very good half court center. I am not sure if he can prosper in Coach Pringles offense. We need a Camby like center for our team.

Gortat is actually a decent center and certainly someone who is serviceable until we can find a franchise center. The bigger issue is how do we get rid of Curry. I would be all for signing Gortat this summer to a reasonable deal. I am not even considering the replacing Lee issue. Whether Lee stays or not, we need a competent backup center who is legitimately 7' feet tall.

*Looks at him*

* Thinks Ol' boy is ugly as hell. Like he's been chained to a radiator for 3/4ths of his life, no homo*

*Concludes that his game can be duplicated for half the cost of what he will probably ask for. History tells me that big men, with decent small sample playoff performances who are looking for a big contract dont pan out a lot*

* Goes back to watching Secret Life of Zach and Cody*

There was a thread on this topic recently. He would fit into D'Antoni's scheme nicely, but as DJ pointed out. Are you ready to throw 5.5 mill/yr at him?

The guy we should have gotten was Kevin Willis and he was eager to play for us and for the minimum as well. For whatever reason we ignored him and I think he went to Toronto at that point.

As to Gortat, or Scola, or Glen Davis, or Aaron Brooks, and all these other role players that seem to do well and constantly get talked up here and on other Knick forums, what happens if everyone gets their wish and we were to construct a team full of these guys everyone seems to want? Yeah, that's right, we'd suck.

Why? For they look good because they are part of a very good team. They are marginal role playing talents supported by multiple star players. You take any of these guys and place them on today's Knicks and they will be the trash they really are.

We need to construct a solid core before we give a crap about fringe talent. The days of adding a Gortat or Varejao or Brooks are no sooner than two years away. Those guys are a dime a dozen every year. That's why all the good teams have a guy or two like that. They're always there to be added to a solid team's core.

I agree with this assessment. The KNicks are going to build around their last three draft picks. This years last year and the year before. If there is a trade available for a top notch talent like Amare, Bosh look for the Knicks to possible try to make the deal. If not then waiting on 2010 to pick up free agent talent maybe the only course. Next year is all about playoff or bust with the Knicks there is no draft pick to sell the knick fans.
