You see an injured Tracy McGrady sitting on the Rockets bench, looking a little puffy and carrying a big fat contract and you automatically think he’d be perfect for the Knicks. Right?

Yes, McGrady is the ultimate Rent-A-Knick for Donnie Walsh and Mike D’Antoni. His $22.5 million salary comes off the books next July and if he can recover from microfracture knee surgery - I know that’s a big if - McGrady could be the play-maker that D’Antoni covets.

The Knicks could dump the expiring contracts of Larry Hughes and Cuttino Mobley on the Rockets to make the deal work and just like that Walsh could add an All-Star caliber talent who could make the Knicks a playoff contender and perhaps more attractive to LeBron James.

I know McGrady has never been out of the first round but unlike the Knicks at least he gets to the playoffs.

The one major drawback is that there is no guarantee that McGrady will be ready for the start of the 2009-10 season. He’s currently working out in Chicago with noted trainer Tim Grover, who once trained Michael Jordan and also has Eddy Curry on his resume.

***

There is a report that the Knicks have promised Stephen Curry they will select him eighth overall. I’m also hearing they promised Blake Griffin they will take him first and promised Ricky Rubio they would take him second

[Rant] Frank Isola's blogging rights should be revoked. He suggests that we trade two smaller expirings for one big expiring? As a major starting point, McGrady's caphold in the summer of 2010 would make it near, if not impossible to even sign another max FA unless we give up our rights to T Mac or if he resigned for a much lower amount... but then, why wouldn't we just wait and sign McGrady for that much lower amount after we sign a top FA rather than deal with rehabbing him? Even then, why would we want T-Mac and why would anyone want to play with him? He is consistently injured and misses the playoffs. He takes 25 shots per game at a pretty low clip. He used to have talent, but he has never had the ability to turn that into a chip. In short, terrible idea. Isola should be punished for the mere suggestion of it. [/Rant]

I don't really care if we can get him for two player for harrington/mobley why not? are we going to the playoffs, maybe, maybe not, but he is still better than what we have and expires at the end of the year

oh, I was thinking of it as an actual move intended to the approve the Knicks... I still don't like aggregating contracts into larger, less moveable ones.

i dont like mcgrady and say what you want about him, but the guy is 4th all time in playoff points (28.5) in nba history. and to think he can never get out of the first round...what a waste!

imho, the rockets are so much more fun to watch and seem more together as a team without him.....the way they handled LA yesterday after the news on yao being out of the remainder of the playoffs was awesome. lets hope the rockets dont fizzle after that emotional win.

No thanks to McGrady UNLESS we can get them to take Curry, somehow, someway. He'd be great insurance for Yao!

Well that isn't going to happen. In the end there really isn't anything to lose here. We suck, we take a chance if it doesn't work and we still suck he is gone.

I think the Rockets having brooks an lowry at the 1 instead of alston is also a big reason for the success of the team.

Same, TCrap is not an answer for anything here other than cap relief. Even if we can turn Jeffries and some of our 2010 expirings into TEye's 2010 expiring you have to do it. You don't give up any value to do this unless they actually would be willing to take Curry.

With Artest and Battier they don't need Jeffries and I'm unsure of what team actually needs a guy who will make 20M over the next 2 years to be fat and unable to play.

So it's a pipe dream to think that the Rockets take our 2011s for McShitty's 2010.

In regards to Curry or Jeffries it will take Lee or Nate to get any deal done and any team that does such a deal with us then faces not only our 2011 garbage but a potentially big contract that they have to shell out to keep either Lee or Nate.

We're not in a position of power in trying to shed Curry or Jeffries.
