Sorry- David Lee is not a superstar.
I think a safe definition of a superstar in the NBA is a player who can win games by himself on a consistent basis. A superstar demands double teams from the opposing team. A superstar makes his team mates better, both in his ability to attack the opposing defense, and through his shear will to win. A superstar is great at many things. David Lee is good, very good. But you can't use great unless you want to describe his hustle and effort. |

Depends on how you define a superstar. If you rate LeBron, Wade, Kobe as franchise players and Boozer, Bosh, Joe Johnson as superstars then you can argue that DLee is a superstar.

I think David is a good player. Superstars affect winning. Replace David Lee with Lebron or Kobe and this team is a legit playoff team. Replace David with second tier stars like Paul Pierce etc and the team is better. David is a good player that can help a good team. But on a bad team, at this moment he does very little to affect winning. He strikes fear in no teams down the stretch of games, does not get the big basket, does not get the big defensive stop and you can't run the offense through him. He's a great rebounder, but let's be honest, when was the last time he dominated the boards down the stretch of a game? Until he does one of these things on a regular basis, he's just a guy that accumulates good numbers on a bad team that has no effect on winning.
Superstar? I think not!!!!! I just hope that people will like me

THis is not a poll to discuss if he is a superstar, but as far as valuation we seem to run the gammit of taking him for granted to some whom think he is not that good. This guy is so good around the basket! The mix tape made me appreciate his talents, not his shortcomings. Is this the kind of player that frnachise players look to play with. Is the the kind of player that makes those around him better? Not a go to guy, not a Jordan/lebron/wade kind of player, but a rodman-moses malone-bill russell kind of player who compliments the team. I say russell only because he did not need the ball to be effective. He rebounded, blocked shots (not moses strong suite eithter) and more important he was effective in starting a fast break or finishing one! No, Dlee is not bill russell, but he is athletic and has many qualities winning teams need. |

Kurt Thomas played defense. Good defense too. So no, I wouldn't miss him as much as Kurt Thomas.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

IF we had a true shotblocking center to defend the weak side, could Lee, or others become better defensively? If he played 4's instead of 5's? If he had more open looks for his midrange jumper might he improve? If he was out on the break and getting fed the ball as a strong finisher and passer, might he still put up good offensive numbers? Not superstar, not bosh, not boozer, but a tier below. |

Generally, a "superstar" is able to dominate or exert his will on a game at certain points in a game and they can even carry a team for certain periods of time. Lee does not have the ability or skill to take over a game. His contributions are made within the framework of the team, and he usually does not operate on his own as Wade, Kobe, James, Roy, and other higher level players do.
I like Lee, but he cannot be considered a superstar in any sense of the word. No man is happy without a delusion of some kind. Delusions are as necessary to our happiness as realities- C.N. Bovee

Superstars have the extra gear, and are able to take over games when they want to.
David Lee is not capable of this. |

In the landmark of NY Knicks DLee is a local superstar.
In the landmark of NBA he is solid role player. He requires decent coaching, world class PG, strong defensive center, and go-to guy to be around him to fetch his highest value. His value in NY will be high if we will get all or most of this other pieces. And he will be a waste of live if we will not. I believe that he will get very little $$$ this year to reach for max he can next summer... And by then we will know what the value of DLee is for the Knicks organization. http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/basketball/knicks/blog/2009/04/lee_should_consider_the_ben_go.html [Edited by - arkrud on 04-27-2009 3:08 PM] [Edited by - arkrud on 04-27-2009 3:09 PM] "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy." Posted by arkrud: wow. i don't think i'd do that if i were him. who knows what happens next season. he could get injured. some combo of gallo/chandler/draft pick/trade could eat into his minutes. he might not come close to 16/12/2 on those high shooting %'s. if i were him, i'd sign the largest contract offered to me and be happy for it. |

Posted by Marv:Posted by arkrud: The article goes overboard with 2.4 mils but 4-6 one year contracts make sense if David will get nothing from open market.
