Unrestricted free agent

Another guy who *definitely* should be on our MLE list because of what he brings. Huge but quick and fast for his size with a multitude of skills on both end of the court--only 22 years old. Intimidating size good passer with burgeoning skills all over the court--has played for a winner and has won a championship good character--proven to be a hard worker a unique type player who can play 7 feet because of his girth but is nimble and smart. Started to blow up at the end of the season and is continuing to be an impact player into the playoffs.

Another guy who for 5mm a year could bring much of the same value that D Lee brings but also brings the D for 1/2 the price.

You need 2 or 3 hosses to win championships Davis is very unique type player in that he is very skilled passer for a big as well and brought in in a greta environment for winning basketball.

Why would Boston let him go if they are very high on him. Come on Briggs, you got to start thinking there are other teams involve not just the Knicks. Besides the guy is a restricted free agent, he hasn't played in the league that long to be a UFA.

He is a restricted free agent but Boston is already at 73mm$ a front-loaded MLE in year 1 puts them over 80mm$ with 4 more guys to sign.

Do you really think that they will have a problem deciding between House and Marbury over Davis? If they can work out deals with either House or Marbury then that is gravy but you can bet that Davis will be their first concern in the off-season.

He would be great. But he's too valuable to Boston to be jettisoned. What I like about Davis is his quickness compared to his size. I don't remember the last time I saw a big fella like that move like water.

Those guys mean 0. If you frontload an MLE[obviously setting it up where year 2 is the lowest] I think the number comes out to around 6.5mm--so does Boston want to pay 13+mm for David next year?
I do know that it takes good players to make a good team. This kid is a nifty little[i mean big] player who is very young and very skilled. Will Boston re-sign him--maybe but if we dont try you never know. Of course this is just avenue but it's a realistic smart avenue to look down.

I am with Briggs on this one, Big Baby plays both ends. I would much rather go after someone like him than say Ben
Gordon. Not saying BG will sign for an MLE, but he is not going to be worth the type of money he demands (probably much like Lee), Davis on the other hand would be worth his weight in gold (couldn't resist)
TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

I think he has to be on the MLE list. I would have to believe if we do not sign David Lee or Nate that we arent going to hamstring the talent level. I think you make a list and see if any of the top end names are there--i.e Nash Odom but Davis is a guy who would be on my list of good players worthy of an MLE commitment. He has a lot of skill.

i have a feeling we won't be signing anyone to a longterm MLE contract unless it's Nate as part of a sign & trade.

How exactly do you front load a MLE? There isn't a whole lot of room - you start at $5mm or so and go up.

Now if we had cap room, you could front load a deal - start at $10mm and go down over years 2-5.

You can't frontload the MLE. You have to start at whatever the MLE number is from this year and give raises.

I like Big Baby and wouldn't mind his toughness on our team. That being said, 4th and 5th options on teams with two all-stars tend to look a lot better than they would on a rebuilding team. On a rebuilding team their flaws get exposed as those teams tend to need more. On winning teams they are valuable. On losing teams we consider them garbage.

Yeah but he's young and when we do get good, he'd be nice to have.

However, I think we need to really start building around either a star and see how we do that when we get him. The Big Baby's come after.

We signed Duhon just so we don't look freaking stupid as hell and can at least be somewhat watchable, which we were, besides the last month and a half.
