Sprewell's Clutch Free Throws Lift Knicks

PHOENIX, Oct. 17 (AP) -- Allan Houston scored 24 points as the New York Knicks defeated the Phoenix Suns 98-91 in a preseason game Wednesday night.

The Knicks led 93-91 before Latrell Sprewell made four free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.

Sprewell finished with 22 points and Kurt Thomas had 18 for the Knicks (3-2), who played on back-to-back nights for the first time in the preseason. The Knicks lost at Utah Tuesday night.

Shawn Marion led Phoenix (2-1) with 27 points.

Sprewell and Othella Harrington each scored 11 points in the first half and New York led 49-39 at intermission. The Suns shot just 35 percent (15-of-42) from the field in the first half.

The Suns trailed 76-63 heading into the fourth quarter. Rodney Rogers hit three 3-pointers to help the Suns pull back into the game.

Both Phoenix's Penny Hardaway and New York's Clarence Weatherspoon missed the game due to personal reasons. Also missing were the Suns' Dan Majerle, who had surgery Wednesday on his ring finger and is expected to be out two to four weeks, and New York's Marcus Camby, who had a sore left foot.

Houston started the pre-season poorly but he has been playing well since. Does anyone know the exact reason to why Spoon missed the game??

All that has been stated is personal reasons. Probably a family thing or something like that. I don't need to know about it as long as it will work out for Spoon it will be cool right?

Oh and Othella seems to be racking it up. Might mean we could trade KT + PG for a seriously good Center. Do the nuggets have anything besides Dice we'd want?

The only other person I can think of is Raef Lafrenz. He could fill in either at PF or C.

Last year Denver was interested in Thomas and him for LaFrentz was a possibility, but i'm not sure if it still is now. It would be a nice trade though.
