I like the idea of trading for that pick. I am not sure I agree to use that pick on Mullens, but there is bound to be a player that drops to 14 that we might want to pick up, Maynor for example.
You know I gonna spin wit it

I would be very surprise if Mullens is available at 14 besides they are very high on Budinger who they wanted last year. No way do they make a deal where they could get screwed in by a worse draft pick later on and lose out on Budinger too.

Phoenix has been known just to sell picks straight up. I'd try that first, if not, buy and trade a future restricted first. Just get Jimmy Dolan on the phone (God forbid he should work) to talk to Sarver. I'm sure the conversation would be something like:

JD: Hey Sarver, I have a hangover
Sarver: I'm cheap
JD: I'll give you $3 million for...
Sarver: SOLD!

If you think Mullens might go earlier than 14 you are really saying that his value is greater than some analysts have said it is. If you are the Knicks, would you think about him with your #8 ??

how about we should have traded Nate for a mid 1st round pick at the trade deadline? oh right, you thought that was a horrible idea.

I look at it this way--if Mullens stayed in school and progressed--he would be a top 3 to 5 pick--- getting him at 14 is a steal. We are perpetually small. Even Mike D who has to be watching the 3 Laker big men help put up 120 points a game must realize that we need a big man.

Mullens can help a team NOW--I know he has reasonable transition time ahead of him BUT he can do things to help a team now. Hes an NBA finisher right now--better offensive C than people realize especially in up tempo. He'll be able to block some shots and rebound. If he puts in the work you are looking at a very solid pro center.

We don't have a pick in 2010 right now---we need to think about acquiring size and I think this guy is going to surprise people and quick once he gets the speed down.

I know Pheonix wants cash 3mm in cash today and not paying out 1.8mm== a net gain of nearly 5mm + they get the pick back down the line with an additional second rounder they can also sell if they choose.

I think with the lack of big man depth in this draft GMs will panic as they normally due and try to reach. You will hear reaching a lot on draft night. I wouldn't be surprise if some of the guys the Knicks reach for him at 8. Walsh is a reacher.

Its tough to guage some things in this draft

Think about it--there are two C 1st round picks Thabeet and Mullens--could someone pick him early--yes they could.

This is why some people think its a shtty draft---your looking for a guard or a wing--OK youre looking for PF and C start counting on your fingers.

I don't think it would be necessary to give them a future first if they are really needing the money, BUT
would Phoenix even deal with us? I don't think so, but to answer your question, yes (as by 2011 we would hopefully have some big talent here and our pick would be in the 20's).
