10) What was worse than Rodzilla kicking him was that no pride havin' camera man getting carried out on a stretcher, in order to try and hustle his way towards a payday. Weak.

9)LOL at that hoe crying "why" with those big ass horse teeth. Sad sight.

8) Damn! at that beatdown. Westbrook is a beast! Isnt he doing MMA right now?

7)Thank god Romanoski wasnt born Black. They'd have his ass under the jail with all the shyt he pulled.
7) That Ump needs to get an AIDS test? That comment was wrong on many levels.

6) Bet Rudy T doesnt run up on anybody like that again.

5) The whole sport of hockey is one elongated example of bad sportsmanship. Again, they're lucky they arent Black.

4) That Karate kid kick was classic! He was ready for beef!

3) See #5

2) Holyfield was fighting dirty, but the media had it out for Mike. Holyfield was buttin' him the whole night. Media didnt tell you that.

1) Old man should have gotten his ass handled for that.

sebstar, i'm always cool w/u but i dunno why u'r bringing up the "good luck he's not black" argument when some of those idiots pull this stuff... don't u think Kermit Washington sucker punching Rudy T was just as heinous as anything any of those non-black dudes are doing in these clips if not moreso, or Mike Tyson biting off Holyfield's ear for that matter? come on bro... let's leave the race card outta this... these are just idiot athletes that haven't learned how to control their tempers period.

I brought up race when it came to Romanoski...who was wild and out of control, yet was rarely called "thug" or was attacked by the media until he damn near killed somebody.

Same goes for Hockey...Media and fans love to hurl invective at the NBA and its players, yet continually give the barbaric sport Hockey almost a complete pass.

Complete double standards suck. Not my fault.

I stand behind those comments. The other comments had no racial connotation

I agree that we need more, not less violence in basketball. Like hockey.

Definite. It sucks now. To be fair, Stern had no choice in a lot of ways. Every NBA altercation was treated like the downfall of western civilization. Imagine if they fought like they do in Hockey?!?!

I love hockey. They just let them fight. The refs always wait until someone gets dropped before they even attempt to stop it.

The problem with black man and hockey is not race - it's about cold temperature on the ring.
And man had to fight face to face to be a man, not suc-hit simebody.

In hockey fights have a purpose to protect skilled players. The guys who do it are specialty players. They spending half of their training on the boxing ring. And they are payed for this.

Thats a bunch of b.s...like fights dont have a purpose in basketball. You're trying to rationalize a ridiculously racist double standard.

To be fair this question about Romanoski was asked before concerning how the word thug was used in the NFL. It was only late into his career did the media begin to call Romanoski a thug before that he was just known as a dirty player. For some reason his antics were overlooked early in his career. Not trying to add anything but this conversation takes place a lot particularly during the whole Mike Vick incident on Atlanta sport radio. Interesting stuff.

All I was trying to say. Thank you. I've seen that "thug" dichotomy and the whole 'Blacks are athletic and whites are smart and hard working' more than enough in the sports world.

Not hating on hockey, just the sociological subplots that go along with the interpretations of both sports in the eyes of fans and the media.

i wasn't aware of any other connotations you were referring to in regards to Romanowski... i just took this post at face value... just curious to me why you were pointing out only the white athletes' thug-like behavior & suggesting if those guys were black their actions would be considered more heinous... u also said that Rudy T knows better now than to run up on a guy that way, as if he did anything to deserve that completely cowardly punch that Washington threw that nearly ended another man's life in that clip... shouldn't the disdain be placed on the guy throwing the punch rather than on the guy receiving it? i know u not trying to throw double standards here... i agree w/u complete double standards do suck... but sometimes they get thrown out there by us w/o even realizing it.

in terms of hockey & basketball, i dunno what this whole "whites are hard working & blacks are athletic" stuff you're bringing up has to do w/what you were referring to here about how the media gives hockey a pass for the violence in that sport while basketball doesn't... those seem like completely different & unrelated topics to me... i do agree there are certain stereotypes of white athletes being "blue collar hard working gritty leaders" while black athletes are often labelled as "freakish athletes yet sometimes lacking in leadership ability"... i don't see the correlation w/this topic we're talking about here tho at all.

for example, the predominance of MMA fighters are white, do you think the media would hold more negative connotations on that sport if there were more black MMA fighters in the sport? i don't.

Sebstar:

1) Hockey is not a barbaric sport. It's a great sport.

2) Last time I checked, there are plenty of hockey players who get that thug label, and if not that, then plenty of others. For example, Sean Avery and Scott Stevens. I'm sure there are plenty of more, but I just don't pay attention as much.

3) Basketball is a contact sport. Hockey is a collision sport where fighting is ALLOWED. It is to be expected in Hockey. However, if a cheap shot is thrown during the game, then suspensions are given and the players who give the cheap shots tend to be referred to as thugs. WHY they allow fighting? I don't know, but they do, so it's part of the sport. If they did that to basketball, which I don't promote at all, then the quality of the sport would be severely downgraded. In hockey, where it's already a collision sport, it doesn't look as bad, simply b/c it already is so physical. NOT b/c there are very few blacks in the sport.
