Cowherd: If you're a college kid with huge muscles and male pattern baldness, then you just might be on something

He was talking about Mandarich, but he might as well be talking about Griffo.

No thanks on that guy.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

I have commented on Blake's size before and have speculated on the possibility that he has used performance enhancing drugs, but more revealing is his brother, who is going bald already. Both brothers have similar builds, by the way.

Lebron was built like that at 18!

MJ shaved his head before he started losing it.

No one worried about Adam Morrison!

If you look back at Blake Griffin's pictures from even his sophomore year in HS--he was put together even when he was 15. From everything I have read he is a very nice kid and a great teammate with a great personality. People who abuse steroids usually are not the nicest of guys and blow up easily. He doesn't look much different from this MCD poster over two years ago. He's just a very big athletic kid. I'm smart enough to know I can never say never but I highly doubt he is a guy who takes steroids.

Seems like every time that there's smoke, there's fire in the athletic world these days. I had crazy seats at a Yankees game last year and looking at ARod in the on-deck circle, I'm thinking to myself, man that dude looks like a horse... turns out its because he was taking horse hormones.

All just speculation, he's probably clean, but the more clear point is that the dude is so muscle bound that it makes me doubt that he will ever become a real shooter, and at his small stature, he's going to need to be able to shoot it eventually.

Briggs, I'm not denying your comments on whether or not Griffin is a nice kid or not, but I do think the part I bolded is a bit ignorant. I could create a list right now of guys who were found to be on steroids and were nice people and didn't "blow up."

who cares, as long as they don't get caught... do u guys think Lebron may not have taken a few roids in his day? he sure looks like he has to me... so does Ben Wallace... i dunno what the NBA testing policy is on PED's but if athletes wanna pollute their bodies w/the stuff i could care less... just put up the numbers & don't get caught.

developing male pattern baldness at a young age does not mean someone is using performance enhancing drugs.

this is silly sophomoric speculation at its worst.

Spoken like a true mathematician. I agree with you. I think steroids in basketball, baseball and other non-contact sports is OK unless you get caught. It's your body and you are only hurting yourself. Football, Boxing? That is another case. Any sport where you inflict pain and harm to others needs to be controlled or you can just have everyone use it and let them know you will need to pay the piper in the end.

I went to HS with some cats that were losing their hair at 15 and I guarantee that they were not using roids.

even in MMA i'm pretty sure plenty of guys use the stuff to gain an unfair advantage... do u think Dana White really cares? he's trying to promote the sport & wants guys who can provide the best action & draw the most fans... guys like Wanderlei Silva, Tito Ortiz & Ken Shamrock back in the day, even my favorite GSP, i wouldn't be surprised if all of them used roids on a regular basis, & there has to be many others using too... so what do we do? do we ban all these guys out of the sport & have the sport disappear altogether? what does that do other than satisfy a few anally retentive Congressmen on Capitol Hill who like to hem & haw about completely useless topics regarding sports instead of dealing w/real issues like the failing economy, education & healthcare? these athletes are grown men, if they wanna pay the price when it comes to their own bodies by using PED's, then that's on them... i'm a fan, i'm here to be entertained, not to care about the longterm health of athletes when they don't care about it themselves.

Could be. Could be something else, too.

Just speculating, perhaps being provocative. I have no information at all, and to be honest, I would want to be wrong because both brothers seem like decent kids.

If you see earlier pictures of him he was not as thick as he is now.

No, it does not necessarily mean that something is being used, but you are aware that steroid use is linked to hair loss in some instances, aren't you? Not hard to find info about it on the "internets."

And how much time was wasted on UK speculating on Gallinari's back- its history, how much it was damaged, how it was hurt, etc.?

Speculation is the spice of sports talk, but wondering about whether a player is using drugs to enhance his performance, and what that might mean if you were to draft him, is hardly silly or sophmoric. It is good business and due diligence on the part of any GM who might end up with Griffin on his team to make sure that he is clean.

If you are going to speculate on a player's personality or whether they are using PED's, now is the time to do it- before you invest millions on them.

Person who is grossly muscular who clearly uses drugs to enhance physique

Anyone who has lifted weights for 20+ years knows the difference between a guy who is muscular from training hard with weight s compared to someone who is obviously saucing. With Blake Griffin's frame---lets say 6.85 with broad shoulders--if he did heavy sauce he would weigh close to 300 pounds. I don't see any gross change in bodyweight--I see natural progression there.
Take a hard look at Barry Bonds before and after--people who take the stuff gain 20-40 pounds

How do you explain Rafael Palmeiro?

You can only tell if the person is on roids if they are maniacal in their weight training. People who are using steroids gets thicker.

I am mid 20's and getting bald. I don't do drugs. This is a manly trait.

But how can basketball players use steroids or other things like that, I would think this would mess up their performance not enhance it.
