They basically want guys who can make plays from all 5 positions but can also D up. To make plays in the NBA you must be able to create separation control the ball well and shoot it[obviously shooting can get better] It kind of sounded like they were talking more along the lines of players like Tyreke Evans Evan Turner Earl Clark--that type of player who can D up but have multi-skilled games. I dont get the jive that they are talking about a small player or a big player with just post play like Mullens Thabeet etc... I still wonder if Utah would be interested in giving us Koufus and pick 20 for the lottery pick this year and maybe some cap relief for 2009--if he became available --would be that kind of player from the 5 position--which for us is much more attractive imho.
I have to wonder about Curry--he kind of falls in line with a guy who has that mutli skilled game--scoring slashing rebounding play making but I have to wonder about his body and he would have to do it at the 1 guard.

Please no to Curry.

We need to draft a kid that has a suitable body for the position he plays.

No 6'8" PFs, and no 6'3" SGs.

Curry is a big time clutch player but he's not going to be able to D' up in the NBA. He's so small that it's going to be a liability.

Another thing he said is that he thinks that the draft is deeper than people think.

I'd love to do that trade with Utah. We'd get a very good all-around C prospect in Koufos and still have a chance to get a good player like Blair or Sam Young, possibly even Teague or Evans if they slip, with #20. Still have guys around like Lee, Nate and maybe even Chandler to help broaden that deal a little and sweeten it up for the Jazz a little bit. If not, I don't want any part of Steph Curry if we stand pat and wind up picking around #8. We can do better than that at 8 or better IMHO.

Also, I'm excited to hear Donnie say that the draft is a lot deeper than people think. I happen to agree with him big time. Here's hoping he's planning to buy an extra late 1st/early 2nd round pick or two. No question there will still be decent players left on the board late in this draft. And if some talent slips all the way through and goes undrafted, I wanna see Walsh/D'Antoni ready to pounce with some summer league/pre-season camp invitations...

my thinking is they really covet Ricky Rubio... he fits exactly what Donnie's looking for, someone who can make plays for others & still D up on the perimeter... too bad we don't have the assets to move up that far to get him now.

i'm getting worried that they'd pass up on someone like Derozan because he's still a little raw in his skillset in favor of someone like Earl Clark... i'ma be pissed if that happens.

You know Coach and Donnie covet Rubio. It is going to take some strong words and heavy hands to get that kid here (barring a lotto miracle). The NBA needs this. Times are tough, the NBA needs the Knicks, seriously. I don't think it's going to help the NBA at all if you take a talent like Rubio or Griffin and put them on a small market team. This game is about the money, it's a business. Even though many of these guys are into it with their heart, it's still a business and the economy is going south.

All 5 positions, heh? Why do I have a feeling they are going to take a hard looks at Henderson, Clark and Brackins.

I would love Rubio, and think the Knicks would too but if we don't move up, forget it.

BRIGGS is right that Curry is the kind of player we would like.

I also think someone like Maynor too because both are ready to play pretty significant minutes now, and fit team needs.

Evans is a real nice athlete, and DeRonzon is even more so, but I think their games need much more work. The Knicks need/want players who can come in and play immediately next year. With our pick gone, and a need to show free-agents we are on the rise, the team needs to do whatever it takes to get better next year.

I'm not sure if Jennings is there what we would do, because he needs more development.

If I had to spit my .02 it sounded like he would prefer Evans over Curry. Evans is a guy who can make plays and is a good defender. There is no doubt that Evans is a guy who is a versatile playmaker who can also rebound and defend with a good body. I have to question Curry's body and I'm a Curry fan. Curry was shut down a couple of times this year by aggressive defenders and every player at the next level can bring that type of aggression on the D. Can Curry separate himself and runt he 1 guard at the pro level--I thought he could but as the season went on I questioned my own thinking more than once.

To me I think if Evans or Derozan is available you take either one IF they are even there--my fear is they both wont be. Now do I know if D Walsh thinks that way? I think he does with evans not so sure with derozan but I hope they really look at his last nine games and use projection a little bit. I think Derozan is a safe and potentially high rewarding pick long term. I think more teams will jump on the Evans bandwagon--I cant see him going by GS unless Thabeet was still on the board.

I've only seen very little of Peter Flynn play but from what they say about him and his highlights show he seems like the kind of strong leader of a PG and he has a swagger about him that would work in NY. A bulldog of a PG... I know people say 8 is too high for him, but I'm not really sure about that. After hearing about Rondo and Rose today, you can see how important PG's are, especially when leading a team in the playoffs.

i think if you put curry on this team, his skillset would flourish i mean he's built to play on this team. he's a versatile guard, can play either spot, and that's good enough. i like evans too b/c he's versatile and 6'6", point is, the knicks need a guy who can make plays with the ball in his hands, nothing is more important with d'antoni, we need an orchestrator.
