Posted by BRIGGS: I doubt you have watched many GS games because you would see that he is more of a SG. Just because he has 23 and 7 against the Jazz right now does not make him a good player. |

Posted by Cookdcokehop:Posted by BRIGGS: Watson is the closest thing to a true PG on that team--I mean anyone who has seen GS play can easily see that. He's played well every time given a chance. Look at his shooting % compared to JC. JC has proven without a shadow of a doubt he is the most inconsistent player making 10mma year--if he has any brains he would not opt out:) Also if you look at guys like Chaucey Billups --who is a world class "PG"--lets face it--he is much more of a combo guard. So I would not limit myself to a true 1G Im just looking for good players who I can get cheap who can play. [Edited by - BRIGGS on 04-11-2009 10:58 PM] RIP Crushalot😞

What you could do in terms of saving $$$$$ is let Nate Robinson walk --even for the MLE and sign a guy like Watson for half the money---2 or 3 years at 2.5mm per and get a better defender who can play back up PG and 6th man.

Posted by Cookdcokehop: Golden State is very very good at finding nice guards from no where. Azubukie Watson Morrow not drafted---picked in the second round Arenas Ellis. If we lose Nate --grabbing a guy like Watson for 2mm a year for 3 years would be a nice substitute for 1/3 of the price. He could be a spark plug 7th man here with the ability to start PG when needed. We need good players to help win--this kid looks like with PT he can be pretty darn good--kind of like a springy Mo Williams. RIP Crushalot😞

His middle name is Akeem, like that Houston Center. So that's good.
I really wish we had traded for Anthony Randolph this season if it's true that he was available. He is going to be a superstar!! WE AIN'T NOWHERE WITH THIS BUM CHOKER IN CARMELO. GIVE ME STARKS'S 2-21 ANY DAY OVER THIS LACKLUSTER CLUSTEREFF.

Posted by BRIGGS: I'm on the fence with Nate but I think you guys are right, he can be replaced. I don't know about just letting him walk away for nothing but if they orchestrated some sign and trade with Nate for maybe an expiring vet or two and a pick it wouldn't be the end of the world. If they're looking to replace exactly what he brings I'd take a long hard look at Miami Hurricanes guard Jack McClinton with either an extra pick or if he goes undrafted. McClinton has gotten no buzz at all this season and I don't understand it. This kid's a good player - like Nate he's an excellent scorer who can really fill it up in a hurry either with his excellent shooting stroke from long range or by taking it to the basket. Quick & Strong as hell (he's built like a little bulldog) with an adequate enough handle to play some point. Like some of the other players in this draft he's a little older but that wouldn't scare me off. Say he's 24 yrs old - big deal. I feel the same way about some of the other 'older' talent in this draft as well -- Sam Young, Taj Gibson, KC Rivers -- these guys can play and definitely contribute as far as I'm concerned. That's the bottom line. The fact that they're a little older than others in this draft class is obviously something to think about but it wouldn't break the decision for me if they were guys I liked. These guy's are still young enough to play in the NBA for 8-10 yrs. at top performance. And if you're the Knicks, and we don't get this thing straightened out during that time span, that's really a problem. Some good talent's gonna get overlooked and slip in this draft and the Knicks should be ready to pounce. [Edited by - finestrg on 04-12-2009 11:12 AM] |

Posted by Finestrg:Posted by BRIGGS: I think Nate has slid his value directly into an MLE. I think that is very solid value for a franchise--you usually don't get a player like Nate for the MLE. It's in Nate's best interest to have the Knicks S+T him but there has to be solid value coming back. And it is also possible Nate remains a Knick with a QO--making him unrestricted when all of those teams have money to spend. Still there are a NUMBER of teams who would LOVE to have Nate coming off the bench--he is very good sixth man and everyone in the NBA knows it. The Knicks have to get value or I would just do the MLE and if it does not work out--trade him signed later on. Im not willing to let a team walk in and take Nate for an MLE with no compensation back and I do think they can get some. As far as Jeff Teague goes--I really believe the Knicks want/desire a bigger player with their pick. A guy like CJ Watson could be had imho for 1/3 of the MLE--which does not amount to much more than what draft picks get anyway--but he has proven to be a good player who plays good D off the bench. He's proven. When you can go 38-9-7 in the NBA--and shoot 46% from the field 42% from 3 and 90% from the foul line in athletic body for the year at only 24 years old--that is something I think the Knicks might be interested in. We want to win--we need good players--if we do lose Nate we need to replace 18-4-4. RIP Crushalot😞

you usually don't get a player like Nate for the MLE. i'd rather have JR Smith & he's making midlevel dollars... not to say Nate's not worth the MLE because he is... i don't think that fits our plan tho unless something gets done w/Fishlips or Curry's contracts... i'm thinking Walsh will look to s&t Nate at some point, if not this offseason then at the deadline next year. i can see the Knicks trying to work out a S&T for Nash this offseason using Nate as 1 of the pieces, maybe combining him w/an expiring like Q Rich & DEN's 2nd rounder to make the dollars work... the Suns drafted Nate so they're probably still high on him, & they could slot Barbosa into the starting PG role if Nash leaves & Goran Dragic can find more minutes as a backup... Nate would be the 6th man scorer & take over Barbosa's current role & Q Rich already has experience playing in that system so the transition shouldn't be too bad for him.
That fits into Walsh's plan perfectly because Nash can be resigned since we'd own his Bird Rights & he'd be an attractive player for other max guys to want to play with... then u can try & execute a deal to dump Fishlips or Curry's contract using D Lee as a sweetener as Walsh tried to do at the trade deadline.
