If the Knicks think they can swindle him from the Jazz. That would seem to be the kind of 7 footer that Mike D would like.

He's played very well in the NBA when given a chance--also has been doing well in the D League

Yes - Jazz management is really stupid and if they have a guy that is as talented as you think they will surely let Donnie swindle them out of that talent for little value.

Bottom line - teams with good players do everything in their power to retain the rights to that talent.

If Koufos is good -- he's staying Utah unless we package 1 or 2 of our more valuable assets -- than where are we at?

+1. I like Koufos a lot. Big, very young with excellent all-around skills for a C. Seems like a real nice respectful kid too, if you've ever heard him or seen an interview. A 'yes sir, no sir' type that appears to have been brought up the right way by his parents. What would you be willing to give up again? I betcha they like Lee and Robinson somewhat but aren't interested in the contracts that they'll wind up getting. Plus, they still have Millsap who's very comparable to Lee. That leaves a package built around Wilson Chandler. Are you willing to part with Chandler? Losing Wilson will be tough but if we replace him with a 2010 FA or a draft pick (say we don't land LeBron but wind up getting Joe Johnson or say we grab an extra pick in this draft somehow and draft a guy like Sam Young) or if Gallo heals up and becomes a player next season, it might be worth it to get our hands on this talented, well-rounded center. Remind me again what your proposal was Briggs.

I'm not sure Koufos is a star, but depending on my pick in this years draft- there's a good chance that I'd rather have Koufos than whomever I could take there.

Maybe a re-signed David Lee for Koufos, Matt Harpring and the rights to the Knicks 2010 pick?

Jazz could then move Boozer for something decent.

koufus does not have bargnani type skills. he can not stand at the 3 point line and take someone off the dribble or do a crossover.

with that said, koufus probably is a player d'antoni would like.

Something like this would obviously be the first choice but I can't picture Utah being OK with taking back Lee re-signed to a longterm deal for big money. Not when they still have Boozer for the moment and a very similar Paul Millsap. Maybe they have interest in Robinson (Nate's gonna get paid himself but his deal will wind up being more favorable than Lee's) or it will have to be built around Chandler. Even so, I'm interested. This kid Koufos is very skilled in a number of areas and I could see him being a very productive big man in the NBA for years to come...

Milsap could walk this year and there has been a lot of talk about Boozer leaving. They could have Lee long term and then be able to move Boozer for some value.

Possible but I don't see it that way to be honest. If they let Boozer go, why not re-sign Milsap at less money than what Lee will get and let Koufos come off the bench and backup both Milsap and Okur? That's a very good, cost-effective rotation of big men. If they every decided to deal Koufos it will probably take a type of player(s) in return that they don't already have - Nate or Chandler come to mind, or Gallo might enter the equation (even though he's more or less damaged goods right now, Utah might like his potential) - to get something done. But who knows Des, you could be right and they might covet Lee, long term contract and all. Bottom line though is Briggs is right on the money here - this kid Koufos is definitely worth trading for and I could see him being the type of 7 footer D'Antoni would like - can run the floor, shoot it as well as any 7 footer in recent memory, rebound enough and clog the lane with his size and block a shot or two. He'd be perfect for us.

Nate Robinson wouldnt work in Utah. All hell would break loose.

i can see what you're saying briggs. he would definitely be someone d'antoni would like. but why did he drop so far in the draft? i mean we're talking about a player teams wanted in the lotto vs a guy that taken 23rd. what difference makes him 20 picks lower? 8 bigs were taken before he was.

If he came back to Ohio State--would he be available at 8 this year--answer--no. Look how he finished out last year--that wouldve easily followed through.
