... ranked by record of course, here's what the playoff bracket would look like.

(16) Detroit @ (1) Cleveland
(9) Portland @ (8) New Orleans

(13) Phoenix @ (4) Orlando
(12) Atlanta @ (5) Denver

(14) Philadelphia @ (3) Boston
(11) Dallas @ (6) San Antonio

(15) Miami @ (2) LA Lakers
(10) Utah @ (7) Houston

Just something I wanted to bring up since these playoffs look a little more attractive, IMO.

It just sucks, because the Western Conference has been so superior for so long that it has created an imbalance in the road to the championship. That said, I think things are fine the way they are.

Whats the difference between seeing the Lakers kick the Suns ass, or the Pistons ass in the first round? Its just rearranging the chairs on the Titanic deck for the most part.

The assumption that seems to be behind such discussions is that if there had been a rule-change, and we were taking the best 16 records, then the records would be pretty much what they are now. But that's extremely dubious. If the rules had changed such that we were taking the best 16, and if Eastern teams in the 7,8 spot had inferior records to Western teams at 9, 10, the Eastern teams would be inclined to make some changes in order to get more competitive. As it stands, they don't have to.

Everyone knows what they have to do at the start of the season, and this dictates how things play out for teams on the cusp. If you change the rules at the start of the season, you get a different set of goals, and thus, a different set of games.

I'll be ok with that when teams will play the same schedule, which is not going to happen anytime soon...
