Allan Hahn is reporting that Gallo did not make the road trip and plans to have back surgery next week.

Its about time. Im glad he is taking the steps which will hopefully get him healthy.

Fingers crossed. Hope for more news in the near future

i wonder what kind of back surgery they opted for
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Shaving the bone (heh heh) is not major surgury. Granted nobody wants to open a back up and work on it, but I think they have been real patient and NOW is the time to do it and let it heal.

Lets hope this works and we can get this kid back on the path. He HAS shown skill and ability along with attidude. He can play up to this level and be effective.

He was a good pick, just gotta get him healthy!

I agree. Look at the last 10 drafts or so. Its very very difficult to get a great player past the 5th pick. There are some good ones that slide. Last year's draft was no exception. I have no problem with taking a 6'10 guy with a great handle and great jump shot.

Card stacking posts aside I wonder if Dr. Callahan will be performing the surgery herself. That should be fun.

I don't see why she would. She's one of the doctors that said he doesn't even need surgery, correct? Personally, I think he should go back to Italy to get the surgery. If they are the guys that think he needs it, then they should give him what they think he needs.

Dr. Lisa "shakes" Callahan is not an orthopedic or neurosurgen so I doubt she does it.

Isiah stayed in a holiday in express so he will do it.

Have it done in Italy??? Well I just can't imagine the information Allanfan has that would warrant that suggestion.

I thought he has seen other "specialists' who recommened the same here stateside.

Why do it here? Knicks are likley paying for it, will likely be rehabbing in NY, and he is under contract with them so they can control the process.

WHile im not a pro at this, I can see why Dr. Callahan would not recommend surgery. If it is successful its great for all. If it don't work, she might be on the hook for it.

I guess we get the litney of "knick doc's suck" posts soon enough.

I said that b/c I thought all the specialists here said he shouldn't get surgery, so he went to Italy and everyone there told him that surgery was best. Maybe the Knicks are paying for it, but don't they want their first round lotto pick to fully recover?

And for the record, I don't want to be associated with a doctor who makes her medical decisions based on her worrying about being on the hook or not. This isn't coaching pro basketball now. This is medical practice.

Good points, but from what I know about back/cervical events is there is no one opinion that dominates. WHile you and I can live for two-three years with this condition he can't lose another year of developement. Millions ride on what happens the next 12 mos.

If they did, my bad. I just thought USA said don't get surgery, and he felt their opinions were suspect, so he went to Italy. But what do I know?

It's a complete Backectomy. That's the only surgery that can guarantee that he will never injure it again.

What will this mean for the stiff legs you always mention? Will he now have athletic free flowing legs like Magic Johnson and Larry Bird?

I'm quite tired of this mess. Again as I have said if he was a 50 year old nobody sitting in a barco-lounger watching TV? Fine, don't have surgery, I don't blame you.

Yet, if you're being paid MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to throw an orange ball through an orange ring? Then you have to be responsible and go get the surgery to try to be the best player you can be.

This has dragged on NEEDLESSLY for nearly a year. No excuse for this. Hey, if he doesn't want to get cut I don't blame him one bit but if that is the truth then you know what? RETIRE FROM BASKETBALL and let the Knicks move on! Don't drag it out because then you just look like you are milking that contract to the very end. Which, thank god the newest CBA, has him expired in 2010. So if he is a bust he is gone next summer.

Yes, yet, months late. Many months late. Like 8 months late at the very least. I'm simply tired of this. Again, if he has a fear of surgery that is fine. As a fellow human being that is fine and I understand. Yet if that is the problem here then RETIRE DAMMIT RETIRE and let the team move on!

Yet, no, it was dragged on for an entire NBA season.

This kid has skills, we've seen it, it is obvious he can be a very good player. Yet none of that matters given this health issue. He has been unwilling to correct it for nearly a year. Anyone with half a brain could understand from the start this would be a surgery matter. Inevitable. Yet he did not want to do that and the Knicks allowed him to pursue other methods. Now we're right back where we started last July.

Pointless....and lucky for us and him we have a 2010-2011 plan in effect which has allowed him to take this approach.
