Magic center Dwight Howard doesn't believe that the Knicks will have trouble landing a pair of top-flight free agents in the summer of 2010.

"You know, a lot of people would love to play in New York," Howard said.

"Not only just because of the city, but the opportunities for people to say they were on that stage."

Howard doesn't believe that the rough seasons the team has suffered through recently will play a factor in the decision of guys like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade or Chris Bosh.

"Everybody says [it is in decline] just because they've had a couple of bad seasons," Howard said.

"It's still a place that has a lot of history. When people play there, it's like the basketball spirits are still in the arena."
"OMG - did we just go on a two-trade-wining-streak?" -SupremeCommander

Dwight Howard has more pride and faith in this organization than a majority of the Knick fans who are on this board

I'd sooner have Dwight Howard than LeBron. It's always difficult to find a decent center. To get one who scores, boards and plays d as well as him, gives a team a huge advantage.

Dwight wouldn't be the first top-tier center to leave Orlando for greener pastures.

i actually agree w/u... i'd rather have Howard... most championship winning teams have a dominant C who is an impact player on both ends of the floor, & Howard definitely fits the bill... IMO he'll win a championship before Lebron does... of course, who wouldn't want Lebron, that's not even a question, but i think given a choice i'd take Dwight, not because he's a better player, but because i think u can build a championship roster around him easier than u can around Lebron... just MHO.

When you add marketability and dollars and cents to the mix, there isnt even a contest --- you take Lebron.

In a pure basketball vacumm, who would I choose? Well, this is probably the same convo that the Houston Rockets had when they were deciding to draft either Micheal Jordan, or Olajuwon.

Get Lebron, then the year after get Dwight.

Or clear the decks 2010 and get CP3 and Dwight.

So then it is settled? And we are all in agreement.

C-Dwight
F-Bosh
F-LeBron
G-Wade
G-Paul

Get on the phone, Donnie!

Oh, and remember, they will all sign for 8M a year because they can make up not having a max contract because NYC endorsements pay double!

i think almost every team i can remember that's won a championship other than the Bulls have had a dominant rebounding presence in the paint who played tremendous defense & blocked shots who could also score in the low post... even the Bulls & Pistons had Rodman who didn't block shots but was 1 of the best defensive & rebounding F's ever to play the game & Laimbeer was an intimidating presence defensively as well even tho he didn't block many shots either (later Pistons had Big Ben)... it's been proven time & time again that u need an inside presence on both ends of the floor to win in this league... look at those dynasty teams like the Celtics (Russell, Parrish), Knicks (Willis), Lakers (Wilt, Kareem, Shaq), Rockets (Dream), Heat (Shaq & Zo), Spurs (Duncan), all teams w/a bigman C down low that could bring it on both ends of the floor.

u gotta think that a player like Dwight Howard just makes things so much easier for everyone else around him, both offensively & defensively... the same goes for Lebron too but being a perimeter player he is limited in terms of how he can effect other team's shots in the paint the way Howard can... it's a close call for me but i think i'd still take Dwight Howard if i was building a team to win championships... if my focus was on marketability & dollars then yeah, Lebron takes it hands down.

wow. you guys surprise me.

i understand the big man theory. but applying it to dwight howard over lebron james???

imo lebron james will end up being recognized as one the handful of greatest players to have ever played the game. dwight howard won’t even be mentioned in the top tier of centers to have ever played.

i really do wonder about the overall level of downgrading lebron that goes on. the guy is magic johnson good imo.

i agree, Lebron will be considered 1 of the greatest to ever play... i'm not trying to downgrade Lebron here, i've been on that guy's jock since he came out in the draft saying we should tank the season before it even began to even have a shot at winning the lottery to pick him... i know he's that good... but again, my focus is on winning championships first & foremost... Lebron is great & i would love to have him as a NY Knick... but even Magic needed Kareem to win championships in LA.
