... we played like scared girls second half... let one slip through the finger tips. God damned pleasure watching Carr though. And if you know where I can buy his jersey, let me know, because me and my buddy want to get matching ones, which in this case is totally respectable.

I can't believe this played out almost the same as the Tenn game last year... this one stings a bit more because of the lead

I got a ton of messages saying how people were mad and frustrated but knew they shouldn't be. It was a lot of mixed feelings but overall I'm happy, albeit a little disappointed, with their showing. I missed the Tennessee game because I was out of the country, so this was the first time I've seen AU play in the tourney. It was pretty cool.

As for the game, when we got up 14 we started playing not to lose. They just lost their aggressiveness. They also couldn't match the intensity and athleticism of Villanova. Having Carr get into foul trouble just killed us. He was awesome, the kid has a ton of guts and game. The Nova coach gave him a very nice compliment saying he was the best guard they've played this year.

It's disappointing because you could smell the upset but they did their supporters proud. Oh and they covered the spread. I hope they can build on this with 7 seniors graduating. It'll be tough to replace Carr along with Mercer and Gilmore.

Man, I was all set to head to Philly for their next game if they had won. I had a couple friends at the game tonight and they said it was awesome, at least the 1st half.

They really did start playing not to lose. They were trying to move the ball around the perimeter like they did in the first half, but Nova really tightened up and their passes weren't as crisp. It looked *exactly* like the Patriot League Championship game, except Nova is much better opponent...

I didn't hear that compliment... but Carr was out of his mind. And great to hear a compliment like that because Carr was just awesome. That one shot where he ran and start his shooting motion with his back to the basket from three was the single greatest shot I've seen from an AU player and probably ever will. That was AWESOME.

To see so many quality seniors go is tough, but I was loving all the great things the announcers were saying. Jay Bilas made the program seem great. And here's the thing, if you're a player that values education and can play at the Clemsons or Gonzagas of the world but only get 10-15 minutes off the bench, doesn't AU become more appealing? They hung in tough against Nova and Tenn for 35 minutes apiece in the tourney, so if you're that type of player maybe you can make a name for yourself for getting AU over the hump.

At least I tell myself they can get over the hump because otherwise I'm going to be real, real sad--between them and the crappy New York Knicks

I graduated in 2005... so I've seen AU fall short a lot of times in person... so to see them actually seem to turn the corner is AWESOME (been saying awesome a lot in this thread)

Jeff Jones is actually good friends with Jeff Van Gundy, and he comes to a fair amount of games

Yeah, it was pretty nice hearing the announcers talk up our program. Great point on getting players from bigger programs that want more PT. Our showing last year and especially this year can only help in recruitment, as long as Jeff Jones stays.

I never thought we'd ever see them play in the tournament at all, so I'm not going to say that they can't get over the hump now.

Supreme, Jay Wright, the Villanova head coach, was just on WFAN. He made some interesting points about the game and American. Worth a listen when they get a audio up on the FAN homepage.

Just out of curiosity, but how many people clicked this thread hoping that Supreme was going to be criticizing me and ripping me a new one?

I can't even imagine how it would have been to go to a big school with teams that compete for national championships in basketball and football.

I mean I'm pretty stoked over a 1st rd loss.

Seriously... it's the only thing I want to talk about right now. I emailed me buddy and we decided we're splitting season tickets next season. If they make a run like this again I want to be there. Not to mention it's an excuse to come into work with a humongous hangover. My bosses didn't understand why I brought a huge fried breakfast
