Looks like those Bastuhds are heading for the third playoff spot and can forget about home court in the playoffs. The head-to-head match-up with Orlando on the 25th should be a good one.

Hard to blame their run of bad luck on Marbury, but he surely hasn't lived up to expectations.

Stephon Marbury does little to nothing to boost Boston

Stephon Marbury is a bust in Boston.
March 12, 2009

The 32-year-old Knicks castoff was supposed to be the Celtics' late-season weapon to help fuel them for another title run with some instant offense off the bench. So far, it's a no-go.

Rajon Rondo, the Celtics' athletic young point guard is out with an ankle injury, so Marbury has been the team's starting point guard the last couple games and he's been firing blanks -- literally.

Last night the Celtics lost in Miami and Marbury played 24 minutes and he was scoreless and notched only four assists. With Kevin Garnett out with a knee injury -- he should return next week -- Rondo's return a few games away and backup forward Glen Davis sidelined for several games because of his ankle injury, the Celtics can forget about the best record in the league. Indeed, the Cavaliers now lead Boston by three games in the loss column, and the Celtics are only one game ahead of Orlando for the battle for the second spot in the Eastern playoff seedings.

With 17 games left in the regular season, Boston is desperate for some extra firepower, but Marbury is either rusty from his 13-month layoff or he's just lost his game for good.

In Marbury's six games with Boston, he's been scoreless in three contests and is averaging a woeful 2.3 points per game, 2.7 assists and two turnovers in 19 minutes of playing time. Marbury is also shooting a miserable 25.9% from the field and has shot only one free throw.

Said Celticshub.com: "The Stephon Marbury experiment is, right now, a disaster. He can't shoot ... He's not beating guys off the dribble and he's not penetrating into the lane."

With the playoffs only 5 1/2 weeks away, the Celtics have absolutely no momentum.

And there are still people who think we should have built a team around this guy like he's Iverson.

In 148 minutes of playing time with Boston this season, Stephon Marbury has taken ONE foul shot. He missed it.

I would not have wanted to build my team around either of them. Iverson was the more dominant player by far, but neither of them, even in their primes, ever found a way to make their teammates better. They were both selfish players. A great waste of natural talent in both cases.

Boston is "losing steam" right now (they just beat Miami, though) because Garnett and Rondo have been hurt- is anyone surprised?? This really has nothing to do with Marbury, who is barely ready to play in a pre-season game at this point. If Boston had any expectations of seeing a player anywhere close to the "old" Marbury, they were crazy.

God, I'm loving this. Marbury was simply asked to leave here and the team improved... we didn't even get a corpse for him. Last year's Celtics team was one of the best teams in league history... they had two Hall of Famers and a perennial All Star on top of that, and the Cs nosedive thereafter. This is so sweet. Screw Marbury. Screw Bastuhn. I couldn't have scripted this any better.

There's this guy called Kevin Garnett that they've been missing during this "skid" of theirs. Why the rush to continue to attack Marbury who is no longer a Knick over it? Absurdity reigns....

I usually see things at least similarly to you... but not here. Boston has lost something, maybe not directly attributable to Marbury, but they are not the team to beat in the East and, well, Orlando is second best. Yes, there are injuries, but injuries mean the Celtics are doing the very dangerous thing of of relying on Stephon Marbury...

KG is a big part of what they are missing in Boston. Marbury ain't helping things at all.

Nope. He's been a dud sans I think 2 games.

They've had injuries. Not just to KG either. Ray is banged up, Pruitt, Allen, Scalabrine - all guys who were playing. They also miss Posey they just don't have that type of player this year.

They're more vulnerable as a result but they are a top 3 EC team and top 4 NBA team and are the defending champs. So until the box goes in the hole they are as alive as anyone.

How absolutely freaking silly would this be. Boston wins the NBA championship. Stephon Marbury is the finals MVP. That would be so disgusting yet so hilarious at the same time.
