we've had alot of healthy discussion in recent weeeks regarding the team's playoff chances and the forum looks split btwn those that want to tank for a pick and those that want to push for the 8 seed.

We've also had discussions ranging from trading for players like ellis, melo, etc (i think one dude even wanted to sign patrick ewing back to a 10 day contract after seeing the snickers commercial)....

My question is what do yu feel is the best option for the team? if we put our starphucking hats aside, do we realistically think the knicks will better benefit from getting blasted in a first round match-up or missing the playoffs and getting a potential rookie pick that they can work into the rotation down the road or trade for a superstar - not messing with the famous '2010 plan'...

my opinion, miss the playoffs, get the pick - no matter how questionable this year's draft is. it's still a pick and still allows for more options with respect to trade scenarios and cap space $ savings.

the question is out there UK....be heard! lol!

No effort required to miss the playoffs. This is automatic.
Luck required getting to playoffs. Luck is in god’s hands so why bother?
This team will play with effort and this is right thing; and will miss the playoffs because too much luck is needed.
Is it of any difference between 8th (a lot of luck) and 12 (little-bit of luck) pick? - A big question.
My answer is not too much to even bother.

I thought A Little Bit Of Luck was that small doofus with the big head on those NY Lotto ads.

Win just enough games to barely miss the playoffs and get like pick 8-11. That's the sweet spot where we got guys like Frye and Sweetney.

Point taken, though it's different this year... don't think there is a true franchise player in the draft, because even though Griffin is awesome I think he's smaller than advertised. In spite of that, he's really the only franchise calibur player (unless Rubio declares, IMO). That said, i do think this draft is deep on rotation players. The team could draft from a huge pool of points, all likely to be quality NBA players. A decent SG should be available between DeRozan, Harden, and Henderson. And a big guy like Craig Brackins should be available too...

I guess my point is I think there's a lot of similar talent in this years draft, and the fall off in talent from pick to pick is not drastic

i agree with you - dont see any standouts either. plenty of role players who the knicks could sign, try-out and use as trade bait down the road. traditionally in past drafts, there's usually a gem or 2 below 20 whose potential doesnt get realized early on so i dont believe it really matters where the knicks pick as long as they dont starphuck. only marquee player right now i think the knicks go for is nash - he will be a knick next year and since he and dantoni had such a love affair (see pic below) in phoenix, id say he comes cheap - maybe a 2-3 yr deal adding expirings.

I would tank for Derozan but not Hill. I'm not risking a high draft pick on a Pac10 big man.

There are only 4 players guaranteed to be on this team in 2010. Chandler, Curry, Jeffries and Gallinari. The whole argument for making the playoffs was to get playoff experience and to impress prospective free agents 2 years from now.

With Gallinari out and Curry and Jeffries not a piece of our future, is getting Chandler experience in what should be a 4-5 game beating more important than getting a higher draft pick? I don't know how someone could reasonably pick making the playoffs over the higher draft pick and chance to get into the top 3.

Yeah, though I'd love if Taj Gibson fell to the Knicks in the second

I will quote you. Now all we need is for Bip to make the quote-lookup-function and we're set

Unless you are getting Blake Griffin, I don't see any reason to tank this. I'd love to have a shot at Hasheem Thabeet or James Harden, but I doubt we're getting there either. I guess you take Hill after that, but outside of those 3-4 you can rank em any way you want and I'm sort of indifferent at this point. We'll see what happens in the tourney.

If Al Harrington misses more than 1 game or so, I say play the youngsters like Samb and Nichols along with Chandler etc. We can't really make a push without Al.

What's not to like? Top scorer who shoots over 50% from the field. His True Shooting has been in the 62-63% range the last couple of years which is just outstanding for a guard. Great bball IQ. Contributes with rebounds, steals and assists as well. Good size. Has a little bit of "crafty lefty" in his game. He brings a lot of positives to the table- seems like a winning player to me.

I think you look at him and say maybe he's not a freak athlete with huge upside, but I think he's close to a finished product, and as a finished product he will be a major contributor right off the bat.

I dunno.. I guess I have a problem with him not showing up against USC in the Pac10 tournament.

I'll be following him very closely in the tournament, maybe I can make a better assessment then. Maybe he reminds me too much of Michael Dickerson or something.

That's a legit concern. He stunk it up against USC the other two games the played too. Probably had his 2 worst games against them.
