Do we have a shot at signing RFA PG Ramon Sessions this summer?

Yeah fish, your right. Who would be interested in a kid like Sessions. I mean heck, he's a 22 y.o. 6'-3" pass first PG with lightning quickness to the basket when he wants to score. Please forgive me for even mentioning it.

When you start a thread with as little content as you did, expect to get responses like what fish gave.

OK, the kid was a second round draft pick so he's an RFA after 2 years. The rest is complicated I guess because I don't know how we could sign him if we're not under the cap.

MLE, that's it. And that would mean 2010 territory cause he ain't signing a 1 year deal.

then why doesnt he score?

I have seen him plenty. His shot stinks and he strikes me as a very good backup. What do you want to spend on him that you dont want to spend on Nate?

He's on a terrible team also

Whats your proposal? Give Sessions the full MLE and let Nate walk? Sign and trade for him (since Milw can match that offer) ?

He's an OK player who has had some good games.

i think the rumor is the knicks might be interested in him, martin.

if the knicks make some moves with the roster, perhaps sessions does get signed.

maybe with a sign and trade, or something along those lines.

we HAVE to find a way to move jeffries and curry.

maybe nate wants big bucks and the knicks are hesitant, and deal him in a double sign-and-trade with the bucks and for one of their other players, or something like that.

if you sign sessions + nate + lee for a total of $22-25 mil, you basically are reassembling a layden team w/o the cap space to sign a free agent in 2010.

I would rather give Nate a contract starting at 6-7mm than Sessions a contract starting at 5mm.

Nate is 2 years older but has shown he can play at a level that Sessions hasnt. Nate has his share of holes but his scoring is on a totally different level

funny...

i thought sessions was restricted, but the new york times article the other day listed him as unrestricted.
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/11/sports/basketball/11garden.html?ref=basketball

Ramon Sessions is having a breakout season for the Bucks and will be an unrestricted free agent. He already has ties to the Knicks, having played high school basketball under the Knicks assistant Dan D’Antoni.

but this article states he is restricted because he is a second rounder.

when you are a 2nd round pick and are on a 2 year contract, the team holds something called early bird's rights. if the team is over the cap, they can match any offer sheet up to the MLE. if they are under, they can match any offer up to their cap space. making sessions a RFA.

that's what i thought with the early bird rights (arenas rule) thing too, which is why i was confused when i read that he was an UFA in that beck (who's usually pretty careful) piece.

I'm not comparing him to N8 because I don't think N8 is a starting PG on 'this' team. I think he's a HUGE upgrade to Duhon. As far as N8, I think as much as he says he wants to be a Knick, he's going to seriously test the FA market to maximize his value. At the end of the day, we might need to do a sign and trade to try and get something back. Would you sign N8 @ 8-10M?

N8 is more of a combo guard. Sessions is a pure PG with good size for his position and great quickness. He is starting to develop his outside game at the NBA level. He looks like he can be a mature pass first floor general with enough quickness to score at will (once he fully develops). He could excel at running an up-tempo offense. You don't think the kid has upside?

thats all good... but again, whats the plan?

Nate is an RFA. Do we match offers for him? He's shown star potential and has had monster games when given the minutes. If I am one of the 2-3 teams with cap space I think VERY hard about giving Nate a chance to PG my team. The upside is tremendous.

Nate is giving you 18/4/4 off the bench, scores at 45% and gets tons of steals.

Nate has had 7 starts. In those he's averaged 37 minutes, 21 points, 46% FGs, 4 rebounds, 6.5 assists 1.3 steals and 2.7 TOs.

He's 24 years old.

Tell me again why we would be looking to give Ramon Sessions the full MLE

Because it makes the team better. We need a starting PG. I think it's pretty clear that it isn't Duhon. I'm not sure who you would get to run this team for less than the MLE, any suggestions?
