Two guys I really like are Sam Young on Pittsburgh and Nick Calathes on Florida.

Young is playing right now on CBS vs UCONN. NBA range after 4 yrs in college, incredible pump fake, good defensive pedigree at PITT (as if that matters w/ the Gentleman Thief D'antoni).

A guy I really like, though, is Nick Calathes on Florida.

http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/player/profile?playerId=36380

per game freshman: 16 points 6 assists 5 boards 1.6 steals
per game sophomore: 18 pts 6 assists 5 boards 2 steals

6'6" true point guard with a lot of swag. lots of upside and is already putting up solid numbers.

here's the immortal chad ford:

http://insider.espn.go.com/nbadraft/draft/tracker/player?playerId=19153&draftyear=2009

does this not sound like a guy who would be be lights out on the knicks:

Positives:

Versatile combo guard -- can play three positions
Excellent floor vision and ballhandling
Excellent shooter with NBA 3-point range
Can put the ball on the floor
Good finisher around the basket
Great basketball IQ
Good help defender

he's on the first round bubble if he declares this year but like i said he could put up 25 8 7 3 as a junior and go top 10, if he has a good tourney his stock could rise.

thoughts?

Calathes looking solid again today. Man, this man is a great, GREAT passer.

I haven't gotten a good read on his defense / ability to drive...but man can this kid pass.

I like Calathes, but he looked slow today and was unable to create his own shot. I don't know if this was by design or because of limitations in his game.

If he was quicker he would be a sure lottery pick.

Curry had 43-4-4 again

If I put my 2.00 in my bet is we go after Curry. Why--well we know Mike D loves a three point shooter who can really score the ball and is also a very willing passer who can also rebound well from the guard position.

Let me tell you Sam Young is moving up on draft boards. The guy is built like a middle line backer with great athletic ability and nice array of old school and new school offensive skills yet is also a tough defender with great mental and physical toughness.
Jeff Pendegraph is going to be the David lee of the draft--he'll be picked low 1's but I think he'll excel in the nBA

I haven't been able to catch a full game with Curry. How has his passing looked? Does he even have anyone on that team to pass to?

Sam Young is awesome. Real solid wingman with an NBA-ready game and body. This guy's polished, a real finished product -- he can shoot (shooting mechanic's a little strange but who cares, it's effective - today he went 3-5 from 3), he drives the ball well with great body control which allows him to finish strongly around the rim, he's very strong and isn't afraid to mix it up inside (in the 1st half today he stuck with the play on several occasions and turned a few of his misses into 2 points), he rebounds the ball AND he plays solid defense. Plays big against big competition - I only saw the first half today but I just saw the boxscore - 31 & 10 - against the #1 team in the country (he had 25 pts. against them last time out). Not a bad way to finish out the season. DeJuan Blair's a great player and is the anchor on that team but to me, without Young, I betcha that team's not even in the top 25. I know he's a little older and that might hurt his stock some but to me, outside of James Harden who has star potential and maybe Al-Farouq Aminu who's similar but 5 years younger, I can't think of a 2/3 wingman I'd rather have in this draft other than Sam Young. As of right now, pre-tournament, I think he's better than Chase Budinger, Earl Clark, Tyler Smith, Damion Jones, Terrance Williams and Demar DeRozan. Not identical players but he reminds me a lot of Michael Finley. If Pitt winds up winning it all, Sam Young will be a huge reason why.

Honestly he has transitioned fairly well from SG to PG. That being said there are some new question marks with him from watching him so much this year. I would love to see how he would play in a Pourtsmith tourney pre-draft against guys who will be five times more physical that what he is seeing now. Problem is he wont be there.

I love Curry. Great skills on the perimeter trumps the run and jump guys in my book. He's super quick and that shot is insane.

I think Curry = Hornacek plus a little quicker. Thats a damn good player.

If the Knicks get a chance to draft a pg I hope it would be in this order:
1. Rubio
2. Curry
3. Calathes

and briggs i agree, if curry comes out and he's available at 10 i think knicks brass is wetting themselves, he could avg 25 ppg playing in this system 40 minutes a night.

I also agree. Rubio won't be there unless we're in the lottery (and assuming he comes out). Curry is a world class shooter who plays with a lot of heart. Calathes is very versatile and that's always an advantage.

My vote is for Curry. I know his weaknesses but I think he will overcome them. His dad was slow and unathletic too and he turned out to be a solid pro. Curry looks even better than his dad out of college. I know he can run the point as well as Duhon and he will be a better shooter too.

1-Jennings
2-Rubio
3-Evans
4-Warren
5-Teague
6-Jrue
8-Calathes/Mills/Maynor

I'd rather get an extreme athlete that gives us a big advantage. Evans and Warren are going to be that along with some of the Centers in this draft. Jennings and Rubio look so skilled that I'd be OK with taking them higher.

Calathes... I'd hope we'd be taking lower and that we picked a different player with the other pick. I could see playing Nate at the two and making up for that by having an oversized point. Evans would be ideal for that, but... if we draft a Thabeet, then I could see drafting Calathes later on with a purchased pick or compensation for an S&T with Lee.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

...I haven't been able to catch a full game with Curry. How has his passing looked? Does he even have anyone on that team to pass to?...

I think the Davidson v. College of Charleston game is coming up at 6pm on ESPN 360. FWIW, CoC has a lot more talent than Davidson (minus Curry, of course) and Bobby Crimmins has them playing very tight ball. CoC isn't a top 20 team but they are, IMO, somewhat underrated this year. If they get an invitation to the dance, I can see them getting their card punched once or twice. They play vigorous, smart D and they've split their games with Davidson this year, both very tight games. They know Curry and they will play him as tight as anyone. Curry's still a bit slow from his ankle injury (his 43 points in 26 minutes yesterday notwithstanding) but this should be a good game. (I say CoC by ten but, who knows, maybe Curry will limp to 60 points and Davidson will move on.)

No, Curry doesn't have anyone to pass to. However, that said, his passing this year has been breathtaking. Bobby Knight is right, Curry is one of the best college passers. However, I'm with Briggs on Curry's future--it's bright but it's also really hard to tell how he will do playing with/against bigger and better players every night. I still think he's going to have to land on a patient and smart NBA team to end up a star. He has some weaknesses that will need to be addressed for him to be a successful player--he's going to have to be more assertive, and stronger, to run the point in the NBA and he's going to have to make some changes to his D to play against larger/quicker players. I'd be delighted if the Knicks drafted him but I think it will take time for him to learn how to run a MDA team. Also, without an inside threat to take some of the pressure off him, I'm not sure Curry will be a big improvement over Duhon/Robinson.

Here's a link for Warren... tell me you wouldn't want him running the point.

Sam Young is a nice player too BigSmooth. If we used Chandler in a trade, we could potentially replace them with Young or Danny Green.
