He's accused his team of playing like women. However Byron Scott has never used the word "scared" to describe his team's play - especially not in the Jason Kidd era.
But that was exactly what Scott said last night after the Nets fell behind by 16 at halftime before dropping their NBA Finals rematch to the Spurs, 85-71, before 13,286 at the Meadowlands.
"We played like we were scared out there," said Scott, whose Nets have dropped three straight home games for the first time since the pre-Kidd days of the 2000-01 season when he accused them of playing like women. "(It's) the first time I thought that we played that way."
The 3-5 Nets, two games under .500 for the first time since Kidd joined the team, didn't agree with Scott's criticism.
"Nobody is scared on this team," said Kenyon Martin, who had 14points and 10 rebounds after missing five games with a sprained ankle. "There better not be at least."
"That's his opinion; we'll leave it at that," said Richard Jefferson.

W/ or w/o Dyess, Knicks aren't close to the Nets. Nets are loaded. They may not have a dominant regular season -- after you've been to the finals 2 years in a row, hard to get up for regular season -- but it's hard to pick anyone else coming out of the East over them. Sure, Indiana and Detroit both have a good shot ... and maybe even New Orleans ... but I wouldn't bet on any of them head to head against the Nets in a 7 game series.
Everyone knows what the Nets can do, so a slow start isn't that meaningful. The Knicks are a new team w/ something to prove, which makes their slow start, and their lackadasical effort, a big concern.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Knicks come out strong against the Nets ... as Clyde says, "The Knicks play up or down to the competition" and I think they tend to feel especially motivated against the Nets.

WHOA!! When do we "always get blownout by the Nets"???
It has occurred a few (yes FEW) times during this twilight-zone-like 2-year span. Let's not get ahead of ourselves and act like the damn Nets didn't SUCK for their whole NBA history aside from the past 2 years.
Anyway, I gotta laugh outta Scott making the same comment about his team being "scared". It really had me CTFU. So tomorrow will be the "Battle of the Scared Teams".
I hope we come out with a win... However, even if we don't, McDyess' return (AKA the "Last Chance") should be something to look forward to.
Another season, and more adversity to persevere through. We will get the job done, even BETTER than last year.
GO KNICKS!
