Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has called out each of the team's players after a disappointing loss to the Thunder, who were without their two top scorers, on Monday night.

"It's only one game, which I keep reminding myself of," Cuban said "But let's just say I wasn't happy with our preparation, execution or effort. Not only did it look like we had no idea what we were doing, but we did it without effort. The effort and energy, on both sides of the ball, by each player will decide their future with the Mavericks."

"If each player can't take the personal initiative to make every game important and play like it, I don't see them being here next season," Cuban said. "The ball won't always bounce the way we want it to, but every player can control their level of effort. I don't care what their contract is. I would rather turn over the roster 100 percent than subject fans to another game like [Monday] night."

Was this before or after he called himself out for getting raped by Rod Thorn?

Well, to be fair, he's not the first to get ripped off by Thorn and he won't be the last.

Do the Mavs even have a GM? Even though he does care greatly about winning (unlike some other owners), I think Cubes should consider getting a GM (if they have one) and stepping back a bit.

Thorn is overrated, but i know what you mean. Yeah, everybody is going to get beat on a trade or two. But giving up Devin Harris for a broken down Kidd (BTW, most people saw this coming) is a first ballot, hall of fame rip off.

I hate Thorn. He rips people off in trades, but its not like he's ever built a powerhouse team over there.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Billionaires say things like this, but he didn't get where he is by actually not caring "what their contract is." Another buffoon who gets woodies talking to the press and seeing his name in print. At least our stupid rich fat owner knows enough to keep his stupid no-actual-sports experience brain in check, (publically, at least).

And I hate rich stooges who make basketball decisions who've probably never played in a pick up game. Pay the checks, sit on your fat azz and get fined by the league. Let the coaches coach, the players play and the GM's GM. Your job is to pay the bills and make a profit ripping off morons who need to watch the game so bad in person they'll remortgage their house for tickets. And then sell the whole mess at a profit.

Yeah, so there.

Cuban needs to STFU. I was a fan of his for a while--his blog has had some great posts--but not anymore. He thinks he's as much of the show as his players are and that's just crazy

There would appear to be fear in the air. Here's another owner telling his players to show the **** up for every game:

Owner Donald Sterling, frustrated by what he perceived as a lack of effort, went on a tirade in the locker room afterward. According to team sources, Sterling offered a blanket denunciation of the players and strongly backed Coach and General Manager Mike Dunleavy. The owner said he would be willing to trade all the players and said he was putting their future in Dunleavy's hands. Los Angeles Times

"Bottom line is he stated some views and everyone understood the views he took," said Dunleavy, who declined to comment further. Asked if Sterling singled out any players, forward Al Thornton said, "You'll have to ask Coach about that. He can give you more detail. Ask Sterling." Did the talk help the team? "I really can't say did it help or did it motivate us," Thornton said. "I can't go either way with it." Los Angeles Times

Dunleavy said Sterling's locker-room address was hardly unprecedented among NBA team owners, though he conceded this was the first time Sterling had done it in the coach's six years with the organization. Dallas owner Mark Cuban directed several pointed comments at his players after a loss against Oklahoma City this week, saying "I would rather turn over the roster 100% than subject fans to another game like" that. Los Angeles Times

Sterling, according to the sources, blasted players by name, including the team's second-leading scorer Al Thornton. In one exchange, Sterling called Thornton the most selfish basketball player he has ever seen. Cleveland Plain Dealer

When Thornton asked coach Mike Dunleavy (who was standing nearby) how he was playing, before he could answer Sterling told Dunleavy to "shut up" according to one of the sources. Cleveland Plain Dealer

Besides his consistent losing team, Sterling has other issues. Former GM Elgin Baylor sued Sterling, alleging employment discrimination. "After that (tirade) the guys don't even want to play for him," said one of the sources. "It'll be hard." Cleveland Plain Dealer
