From RealGM

The New York Knickerbockers President of Basketball Operations Donnie Walsh announced today that free agent center Cheikh Samb has been signed to a 10-day contract.

Samb, 7-1, 245-pounds was selected in the second round (51st overall) of the 2006 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers, before being traded to the Detroit Pistons on draft night. A native of Senegal, Samb has career averages of 1.1 points, 1.5 rebounds and 5.4 minutes in 20 career games over two seasons with Detroit, Denver and the Los Angeles Clippers. On Nov. 3, he was traded from Detroit to Denver, and on Jan. 5 from Denver to the L.A. Clippers. In 16 games this season with the Nuggets and Clippers, Samb averaged 0.9 points, 1.4 rebounds and 0.63 blocks over 4.7 minutes. He was waived by the Clippers on Feb. 16.

The Knicks roster now stands at 13 players.

Hopefully, DW has assured him that we won't be seeing Brandon Roy again this season.

I like his body. He likes contact too...has that shot blocking instinct. As evidence by that Brandon dunk, he will get in there to attempt to block anything....to his credit, he was late getting there.....still he made the effort rather than watch him sail in like David Lee.

Good thing about it, he's not a stiff. He's fairly mobile and actually has some offensive ability.

Hope he gets a shot to play.

let's be fair here... that's like expecting Chris Duhon to be the next Frank Williams, or Gallo to be the next Maciej Lampe

I would start him and let him play 25-30 minutes. And Im dead serious. Just his presence in the lane will help the team.

"I'm guessing he doesn't"

I'm guessing that Donnie Walsh saw something in Samb's workout worth 10 days to take a closer look

He's a project. Its highly doubtful he's close to being ready to play 25 mins a night. Doesn't mean he's not a worthwhile project

problem is that d'antoni and his staff aren't really known to develop projects...

VDesai - bear in mind that if that 25 minutes a night happens in 2011, Samb is right on schedule. From what I have read, Samb is relatively new to the game but has worked hard to improve.

Herb Williams, come on down!

Bonus Points

What's the over/ under on Cheik Samb versus Eddy Curry in total minutes played in March?

Hmm...

I was responding to BRIGGS posting that he should be playing 25 mins a night right now. That's not realistic at all.

they were in Championship mode over there in PHO with an owner who was cost cutting at every turn, so it's understandable.

Who on their roster did they not develop that is now on another team?

also, DJ, I would consider the development of the full roster on the team during MDA's tenure. Nash, Raja, Borris, Amare, Joe Johnson... did they get better cause of player development or team style?

the knick roster he took over at the beginning of the year is the greatest project undertaken in the history of the NBA. He's turned pure garbage into something halfway decent.
