soulseek .... I've been able to get everything I have been looking for with their file sharing program. Plus its not a haven for spyware and trojans.

Soulseek is great, I used it when I had a PC laptop, but that plastic POS only lasted about 6 months. Otherwise I'm on a Mac and last I looked Soulseek wasn't really ported to the Mac yet (or it took an hour of convoluted workarounds).

Anyway... all of this is to say, you'd be amazed at how much you can come up with simply by googling the band or album you are looking for followed by the term "rapidshare," which is a popular hosting service. Most people with music blogs will upload stuff to rapidshare for downloading by their readers.

There are a couple of services that will come up that require a fee but I don't bother with them.

Between Rapidshare and Soulseek you've got the vast majority of the market covered.

Use torrent search like isoHunt and some torrent downloader like bitLord
You can get any, and I mean any music for free very fast.
You also can get any movies, soft, books, porn, and anything digitized in notime.

I am using virtual machine exclusively for torrent downloads. When I get virus or spy I am just deleting it and using clean snapshot of VM to start over.
VMWare is free as well as microsoft VM. Why bother about protection if you can scrap it any time and start afreash?

download a copy of Avast anti virus from download.com... it's the best free anti virus app i've used yet... better than AVG that i used to use... also do a periodic spamware check using Ad Aware (download from same site)... that combo has worked pretty well for me.

Honestly, I think the whole anti-downloading thing has always been silly. I find most people I know who download music will buy the cd if they like the artist. It's much easier to sample music that way without having to listen to terrible radio stations with terrible choices which they play over and over again.
Wishing everyone well. I enjoyed posting here for a while, but as I matured I realized this forum isn't for me. We all evolve. Thanks for the memories everyone.
