Would you trade--lets say pick 9 a 2012 top 3 protection and a team's choice of either Gallinari or Chandler for pick 2 and take Thabeet?

Is he worth the chance?

I'm not sure that Thabeet would get up and down the floor with the team. Remember we are 7 seconds or less, so him being a bit slow up the court would mean that he would slow things down. In another system I'm open to the idea of trading for him, but do you honestly think he would be fast enough? (You have seen him play).

He gets up and down the floor very well in a fast breaking offense. He did come in second in their 3.1 mile run before the season. He has that strange little gait he runs with but that doesnt effect speed or athletic ability. To be honest Id rather have Thabeet than any FA in 2010 not named Lebron or Wade. People don't understand what type of value he has on the game beyond the numbers.

If you put Thabeet next to Lee you suddenly have a very formidable duo. How would this team do if you took out Jefferies and add in a young Mutumbo?

That is over paying for Thabeet. He still is a high risk reward type player. He isn't a sure thing.

He's better than Emeka Okafor and he was taken 2nd.

BRIGGS he isn't better than Okafor. That is hind sight working. If I'm not misteken you had Okafor going number 1 overall.

There are too many times Thabeet seems soft and kinda babyish to me. I think he has a lot of growing up to do before he excels at the next level.

Wait, we basically give 2 1st round picks (this years and 2012) and either Gallo or The Mayor for Thabeet?

No way. That's WAYY too much to give.
Forum Po Po and #33 for a reason...

He's better than Ok4. A lot of people thought EO was pick 1.

Also take this into account. Emeka Okafor played with Ben Gordon Charlie Villenueva Josh Boone and Hilton Armstrong and while they won the whole thing--they did lose 6 games. Uconn this year has a much less talented roster and we lost 2 games in a harder conference. There is no one quite like Thabeet in the nBA nor is there another Thabeet coming any time soon. Whoever gets him will have one unique player. Is he a finished product--no Are there some parts of his game that need work yes--but he will come out of Uconn as a two time national defensive player of the year a true NBA legit shotblocker and rebounder--as in the guys who are 6-7 and block 3 or4 shots and Thabeet translate differently to the nBA. If Mike D is a good coach who didnt ride the tails of an unbelievable assortment of talent that their GM put together--then I would think he would understand how to get the best out of Thabeet on the offensive end because he can score. The D+R is already there--that is given.

i would do it. i'd love to have thabeet.

but that is pretty far from what mike D wants at center. i'm still surprised they passed on anthony randolph, he seems like a chris bosh type and that's exactly who they want at center at a fraction of the price.

We could still offer our draft pick to the Warriors for Randolph as an option. I don't know what these Knicks want to do. they want 4 guys who take 40 3s and Amare Stouedmire in the middle

Briggs compare Thabeet and Mullens for us. Who has a higher ceiling?
fishmike 9/27/2024 11:00 PM Ug I hate this. The idea of Towns is great until you see what a pussy he is. Jules is a dog. DD was a flamethrower locked up cheap for 3 more years. First Leon move I hate

You're asking a possibly a UCONN alumni about UCONN players. Thabeet is a nice player but I don't see Hakeem, Ewing, Robinson or for that matter Ralph Sampson in his game. Mutombo is a nice comparison Would you give up the 2 high draft picks and Chandler or Galinari for Mutombo. Thats equivilent of giving up three lottery picks for Thabeet which might = Mutombo or end up like Diop. That is way to risky. I say let the chip fall where they may and if the Knicks draft from the 2 spot then take him with the pick.

Briggs - the true test on whether Thabeer is as good of a player as you and everyone else thinks he is, comes next Saturday vs. Pitt. If Thabeet crawls under his shell again, especially after what Blair did to him last time, you can forget about this kid ever having the stones to be a dominant player in the NBA. Saturday March 7 is a HUGE game for not only UConn but Hasheem Thabeet.

Hey thanks for the answer, but I don't see an official "Thabeet "thread. I think you could have given me an answer in the time you told me to look it up. Thanks again Briggsy

Yes - I'd probably prefer to move Chandler if we are getting Thabeet.

Thabeet would cure many of our ills.

I think that package is too much... Thabeet could be a bust... he's a productive player, but inconsistent. A big reason why I think he looks so great is because of his age and experience combines with his size. He's going lose that advantage in the pros and be around much bigger opponents. I mean, if the Sixers want to dump salary maybe the Knicks could trade an expiring and get Sam Dalembert plus a pick. I'd rather do something like that than trade our pick plus a prospect for a guy that isn't a sure thing.

I think you will be surprised when he gets to the NBA but in reality there is no team trading a top 3 pick to us.

Thabeet this year playing atleast 32 minutes avg

17 games

15.8 points 11.7 rebounds 5.7 blocks FG% 64.2% Record in those game 16-1
