Would it be possible to sign either one of them or both of them to one year deals in 2010 and then resign them once we sign a guy like Lebron for whatever amount we want since we have their bird rights and can go over the salary cap for them right? This is assuming Lee/Nate would agree to such a thing. We convince them that they would end up making more money by doing that and get to play in 2011 with a top notch star. If they really care about winning maybe they will agree. Either way, my question is whether this would be physically possible to do?

You have to take injury factor into consideration. That is why players want long term guaranteed contracts.

but can't we give Lee a $13 million contract for next year and Nate a $9-10 million contract and that could keep them happy for a year? Either way, I'm not asking if I think they would agree to do such a thing. I want to know assuming lets say for whatever reason they agree to do that, would that allow us to sign Lebron after next season and then resign lee and nate for whatever amt we agree on?

I asked that question already, but JohnWallace44 told me that was not a possibility.

I rather have a 40 million 5 year contract than 13 million and possibly blow out my knee. There is a rule for this NBA won't let you do that.

It's not a question of possibility but reality. Lee and Nate are part of a union that certifies all their player contracts. Under the circumstances, Billy Hunter would heavily advise both his members of not doing this when it is possible to get long term deals. You have to stop thinking on the point of management but the players involve. Ask yourself would you leave money on the table when you can get more money and security elsewhere.

There is a player scale but no rules on length of contracts except the maximum length. 5 years (non-current team) vs. 6 years (current team).

In order to sign players in 2010 we have to waive our current players' Bird Rights.

That's the catch to your idea.

I had the same question a while back.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)
