6th Man Of The Year Award!

According to ESPN.

1. Nate Robinson, Knicks: Not only has the newly crowned dunk king been performing better than any other reserve over the past six games (averaging 30 points per game), he has played as well as anyone in the league. He had 41 points and eight rebounds against the Pacers on Monday -- the fourth time in the past six games that he has scored at least 30. (Last week: 3)

2. Corey Maggette, Warriors: His average of 19.7 points per game is one point lower than that of Stephen Jackson, Golden State's leading scorer, but Maggette plays almost eight fewer minutes an outing. (Last week: 4)

3. Leandro Barbosa, Suns: Phoenix returning to its run-and-gun ways is good for Barbosa, who is one of the fastest players in the league. He made fantasy owners smile after his 41-point, 7-rebound, 7-assist, 6-steal gem on Friday against the Thunder. (Last week: 5)

4. Richard Hamilton, Pistons: The former All-Star is still capable of filling up the net with his midrange shooting -- he had a three-game stretch of 38, 27 and 30 points, respectively -- but Detroit, which has dropped six straight, is struggling to win games with him in this role. (Last week: NR)

5. (tie) Jason Terry, Mavericks and Manu Ginobili, Spurs: The only reason these two are still on this list is because they had built up such a big lead on the rest of the field prior to their injuries. (Last week: 1 and 2)

I love Nate, but he stands very very little chance of winning this award, even though he is deserving

When was the last time they gave this award (or any major award) to a guy on a sub .500 team? The one thing working in his favor though is that Manu has missed about 20 games and by the time Jason Terry comes back he will have missed about the same. Its a pretty weak field this year. Nate has an outside shot if we make the playoffs but i doubt he will get many votes (even though hes been as good or better than all these guys this season)

I think Corliss Williamson got it when I thought he probably thought he shouldn't for that Pistons early this decade. Can't remember what year but it was before the championship team was put together.

Also on another note, bad teams don't normally have their best players coming off the bench so you wouldn't normally have to even worry about that. Goes back to the argument of why is Nate coming off the bench and that's more of a coach question.

Another thing to consider is Nate is doing this at the height of 5'9" and is such an unlikely front runner. A lot of guys have won this award but the way he plays and at his height is waaaaayyyyy more of a story than anyone else. One thing the media likes is the unlikely winner. It makes for good stories and news chatter.

you've got to wonder if the slam dunk title helps. it shouldn't (not that it's a bad thing), but it can't hurt his visibility. we'll see. these awards can be pretty arbitrary anyway.

I think it comes down to him excelling in this role. You need a strong bench and you need a strong starting line-up. Nate has been so good in his role off the bench, there is not a desperate need to change it. He's still getting starters minutes and ending games, which is the only thing that matters. Regardless of whether he is starting or not, in the last 10 games he is averaging over 34 minutes a game which is right up there with David Lee and Al Harrington. Whether he is on the court when the game starts or 7 minutes into it is really not important.
I just hope that people will like me

either Nate or Lee probably are amongst the top of the list for Most Improved Player award too... if Terry hadn't gotten injured he'd have been the odds on favorite, he's played tremendous basketball all year long for the Mavs & they're 10 games over .500... i hope Nate gets it but dunno if the Knicks get any respect, at least not just yet.
