Its not saying a ton, but .500 basketball for 2 months is a definite improvement over the stuff we have suffered through for the last decade. They struggled some initially after the trades but since that have pretty much been a .500 basketball team, good for the 5th best record in the conference during that span. And that includes a 6 game losing streak they endured while dropping a bunch of heartbreakers. They've also beaten teams like Boston, San Antonio, and Houston in this stretch. Lost heartbreakers late to a tough Portland team on the road and Cleveland at home. Held a 4th quarter lead in another game vs Boston that they lost. Won at the Hornets. Theyve held their own against some very good teams

I think the Knicks are a better basketball team than their record. They have a better feel for D'Antoni and vice versa, and they've gelled better since the moves. We shouldn't have any reason to think they couldn't play .500 over the last 26 games, and if they do it may be enough for a playoff spot with the way several teams at the bottom of the east are in big time ruts right now

That's a nice perspectival statistic. I really think it will be better for us to make the playoffs instead of getting a higher draft pick, especially in this draft (but you never know). The culture of the team from a trip to the playoffs after the last few years can't be overstated.

Once Wilcox and Hughes get going (ok, rather hughes) that will really really change this tea. Get Jefferies out and Gallo in more too. In Nate we are seeing something special, hopefully he passes a big more and plays with some control.

Here is a breakdown of the bottom of the East and their remaining schedules

6. DET 27-27
7. PHI 27-28
8. Mil 27-31
-------------
9. Chi 25-31
10. NJ 25-32
11. NY 24-32

Det- 16 Road, 12 Home, 13 games vs +500 teams
Phi- 15 Road, 12 home, 10 games vs +500 teams
MIL- 10 Road, 13 Home, 12 games vs +500 teams
CHI- 11 Road, 15 Home, 8 games vs +500 teams
NJ- 13 Road, 12 Home, 11 games vs +500 teams
NYK- 14 Road, 12 Home, 11 games vs +500 teams

Chicago has the easiest schedule of the bunch. Detroit has a pretty brutal sked and is in free fall mode right now. Its very possible and maybe even probable that seeds 6-8 in the East will be sub .500 teams at years end. If we can play .500 from here on out that puts the Knicks at 37-45. Thats cutting it close. With how crappy the bottom of the East is that just might do it. Anything better than .500 and we are likely a better than 50/50 bet to make it
