Trautwig: "Salary wise, what does this give you as far as freedom down the road?"

Donnie: "well it doesn't do anything down the road because they're all up before that occurs so it's right in line with what we wanted to do that way."

=========

don't factor into these 2 being in the plans longterm... they're stopgap fill-in players.

? How does what he said support that theory? It was a question about the salaries, heavy emphasis on "salary wise"

be---cause--- when u say salary wise, it implies that neither of their salaries will be on the books past 2010... Donnie's main goal is to retain that cap flexibility for 2010.

Yes, but methinks we'll need players on our team for the 2010-11 season other than the two superstars we're supposedly signing and the four Knicks under contract for that year. His point was we stuck to the original plan and didn't take on any contracts extending into the summer of 2010. Nothing suggests they couldn't be resigned.

Wilcox & Hughes are not gonna sign for minimum level deals... u'r looking at midlevel dollars at the very least for each of them, which means at least $10-12 million in cap being used up on those 2, which means it's not happening.

I think Donnie meant that we didn't add salary and nothing more. 09 for 09 - and then 10s for 10. I don't think there was any inference to be made with that.

.

Meanwhile I think Wilcox has a chance to get his career back on track and possibly be retained beyond 2010.

Hughes - no chance. He's just not a reliable player and not a team player. He demands to be relied on as a starting player - and you can't be a winner by relying on such a player - so that will just play itself out.

i think the only way Wilcox remains w/this team is if Fishlips or D Lee are traded after next season... that's the only way i can see Wilcox getting a contract extension past a 1 year deal after this season.

Hughes i think is a goner after his contract expires regardless of what happens.

Okay so it's settled. I'll dig the hole, you handle the unpleasantries with fishlips, and we will never speak of it again.

good point... there's gotta be all kinds of indescribable gunk inside those smackers of his... less collateral mess means easier cleanup.
