The parameters are sketchy. It seems it's just Malik for now.
The Knicks haven't had a shooting guard since trading Jamal Crawford earlier this season, but they were close to a deal Wednesday with the Bulls for Larry Hughes, who can play the position.

According to several league sources, the Knicks were planning to send Malik Rose and his expiring contract, worth $8 million, as part of the deal. The rest of the players heading to Chicago were unknown, although people close to the Knicks and David Lee said he was not going to be traded by today's 3 p.m. deadline.

I hope it's not Nate. Hughes is a good fit for us - short term. He's got a good outside shot and plays perimeter defense. But at 30 years old and injury prone, the only one of our younger players I'd be willing to give up is Roberson - unless they were moving one of their young players in the deal.

It would be nice if it was Jared Jefferies- but with his trade kicker, doubt it. Not sure what Chicago now looks like with their recent trade, but Malik & JJ would help next year, but obviously push them a bit over in 2010- and I would think as a big market & home to MJ, they want to keep that option open.

TT is the other player that fits- and it opens a roster spot.

Still, Hughes is garbage.

He did earn himself his own website during his stay in Cleveland:

I see no point in this unless we're getting some kind of sweetener or they're taking Jared's or Eddy's contract.

I read this morning that Kirk Hinrich may be apart of a larger deal, involving David Lee. Stephon Marbury was pulled out of the Sacramento deal. Walsh reportedly rejected the Kings offer.. Maybe this is why. D.Lee and Marbury for Larry Hughes, Hinrich and Joakim Noah works. We'll see at 3pm?

Unless the deal involves us moving JJ2, getting Hughes is a bad idea. The guy just sucks and we would be starting two none shooters in Hughes and JJ2.

One report had us sending Malik and JJFat for Hughes. Donnie is indeed the godfather if he pulls this off.

From Hahn- it appears as if the Hughes talks are nearing death, but Jeffries for Mike James or Etan Thomas might still be kicking:

The morning buzz
Lots of chatter last night as the Blackberry battery surrendered somewhere around midnight. Here's what we know as of this morning with talk likely to increase again as the day begins:

We reported today that David Lee is "off the market" according to multiple sources. In the same story we also discussed a scenario that the Knicks were considering that involved acquiring Larry Hughes to fill the gap at the shooting guard position (short-term) for Malik Rose's expiring contract and another player. The Daily News also reported this scenario in today's editions.

Donnie Walsh's preference would be to add Jerome James' contract to the mix, which would make the financials work in a direct two-for-one.

But late last night we heard those talks had either stalled or were completely dead. Our pal KC Johnson at the Chicago Tribune today reported that the deal "fell apart." Of course that doesn't mean it won't be revisited today before the deadline.

But the well-connected David Aldridge said on NBAtv that Hughes is more likely to be sent to the Wizards for Etan Thomas and Mike James at any moment.

The Knicks could also try to include Jared Jeffries instead of James, but we heard information last night that suggested the Wizards might actually be interested in bringing back Jeffries. Yahoo! Sports had that very same nugget in their morning report. James, a shooter (another gunner) who hails from Long Island, could be a potential target.

James, who has already been traded this season from the Hornets to Washington, has a player option for next season but his contract expires after that. At 6-2, he is more of an undersized combo guard like Nate Robinson, but he is an excellent shooter and a willing defender.

So maybe there will be another James in a Knick uniform not named LeBron . . .

Donnie Walsh is definitely motivated to move a few more unwanted contracts before 3 p.m. today. While Hughes would be another unconscious gunner -- imagine the competition he and Al Harrington would have for FGAs -- he does at least give you some veteran experience and he can defend. And, of course, his deal runs out after next season, which means he would be yet another expiring contract on the payroll in 2009-2010.

Another point to consider is the two-for-one trade would open up a roster spot.

Not sure what the Tyson Chandler situation means from a Knicks perspective, but the Knicks have a history of waiving failed physicals and they do covet an athletic big man. The Hornets desperately need salary relief.

Could be a very busy day.

As always, stay tuned . .

I just cant believe current management would send Nate to the Bulls. The guy is a building block.

Hughes would probably be pretty good here and help us, especially on the defensive end.

If Donnie can work it where we get Hughes, Noah/Ty Thomas, and a guy like Mike James or Etan Thomas while using Jefferies, JJ1, JJ2, and Malik I will personally start an online petition to induct him into the hall of fame by 2010.

The rumored deal which would have seen Larry Hughes become a member of the New York Knicks fell apart on Wednesday, K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune is reporting.

The deal was believed to involve Malik Rose and Jerome James.

After Chicago's trade with Sacramento on Wednesday, the Bulls only have 12 players. With Larry Hughes basically de-activated, the Bulls have less than this available. Hughes did not attend Wednesday's game against the Bucks.

Exactly, and, Larry Hughes is TRASH. So if we're getting him, its to turn some 2011 into his 2010, otherwise it's a terrible idea to acquire him to actually play him and think it's advantageous to do so. Beyond just bailing out the Bulls by giving them Malik, a better player in Nate, to take their 2010 problem off their hands? LOL why....

Besides, he's a cancer, a whiner, a low iq low percentage chucker, a non-team player. Everything we don't want in a player. So again unless we're liquidating 2011s somehow I don't see the point.

With teams desperate for financial relief, is Larry Hughes the best they can do for $8M? With $28 Million in expiring contracts between Marbury and Rose, you would think that Walsh would be able to acquire at least some draft picks to eat other team's unwanted salaries. To help out a team in your conference for the privilege of having a player like Larry Hughes for a year and a half, I'd want more.

What does Nate have to do with this deal??

I don't know why Nate has to be included in any or every deal I think that's the media doing it.

Let's face it we have no idea of exact particulars of any trade but so far Donnie has apparently not bothered to consummate two seperate trades both of which seemed to not help us out one bit.

That's a good thing.

Zero reason for us to turn our 09 into 10s unless we're getting back GOOD picks or getting rid of some of our 11s in the process. Otherwise where is the incentive?
