The Hornets and Thunder agreed to a trade that sent Tyson Chandler to Oklahoma City in exchange for Joe Smith, Chris Wilcox and DeVon Hardin.

One day later, the four players will be going back to their original teams.

Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti announced in a press release on Wednesday evening that the team has rescinded its trade with the Hornets for Chandler.

“We were pleased to add Tyson to the Thunder roster,” said Presti. “During the course of the physical examination and outside consultations some questions arose that gave us cause for concern. We felt that this course of action was the best for our organization.”

In the past this has always been because of a kidney or heart problem. I hope Chandler is ok.

no thanks to Chandler unless we're trading Curry or Jefferies in the process... we don't need that contract on our books & he just failed a physical to boot.

Was NO aware that they were trading away "damaged goods" or will this be another Cutino Mobley type medical revelation?

They want expirings and we can accommodate them:

New York Trade Breakdown
Change in Team Outlook: +6.6 ppg, +3.6 rpg, and +2.3 apg.
Incoming Players
Antonio Daniels
6-4 PG from Bowling Green
5.1 ppg, 1.7 rpg, 3.6 apg in 22.2 minutes
Tyson Chandler
7-1 C / PF from Dominguez (HS)
8.8 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 0.5 apg in 31.1 minutes
Outgoing Players
Jared Jeffries
6-11 SF from Indiana
4.6 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.3 apg in 22.0 minutes
Jerome James
7-1 C from Florida A&M
1.2 ppg, 0.6 rpg, 0.0 apg in 2.0 minutes
Malik Rose
6-7 PF from Drexel
1.5 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 0.5 apg in 8.0 minutes

$3 million

Saves them about $5-$6 mil next season($9 if counting the $3 mil), more the season after.

Also, an FYI, Chandler has a PLAYER OPTION after the 09/10 season(his salary is $12.5 million if he exercises the option). A year in Mike D's system might make him a 15 mil a year player(He will be an in his prime 28 or 29 yr old athletic center at the end of the 09/10 season). Daniels is a FA at the end of next year.

Why do football players play with it? We are so close to the end of the season we only need him for a couple months and a focus on having a 27 yr. old athletic center perfect for Mike D's system next year. Also, a 70% Chandler in the middle is better than a 100% Jefferies.

football players play a much shorter season and they don't have to be on the court/field as constantly. i could see it being a nagging thing that would hamper him. it might be why his rebounds have dipped so severely in recent years. still, his interior defense is great.

this whole situation with chandler is really weird.

What is the treatment of turf toe?
Treatment of turf toe consists of trying to control the inflammation of the joint capsule. The most important aspect of treatment is to rest the sore toe to allow the inflammation is subside and the joint capsule to heal. In addition to resting the toe, inflammation can be controlled by icing the area, and elevating the foot, and anti-inflammatory medications.

Athletes diagnosed with turf toe should avoid their sport for about three weeks to allow the joint capsule to heal. Once returning to activities, special footwear inserts can be used to limit the motion of the big toe and prevent further damage to the joint capsule. Ask your doctor to evaluate your feet for possible inserts that can control motion of the inflamed joint.

Will turf toe return?
Unfortunately, turf toe can return, and rehabilitation may be slow. Most athletes have trouble when they try to come back to sports too soon after sustaining a turf toe injury. Surgery is rarely needed for treatment of turf toe, but in certain cases it may be helpful. If a bone spur forms, and severely limits motion of the toe joint, surgery to remove the spur may be helpful.

If some team will want him they should plan not to play him at all this season to have him healhy and valuable next season.
Is it something we need?

Chandler is a pretty injury riddled player. I had no idea he was going down in flames again this year but he has been. He can't stay healthy and he has a big contract.

Pretty much everything NO TEAM wants a part of and rightfully so.

If it's just freakin' Asthma, it must be real real bad....

Asthma Was Reason Chandler Trade Was Voided

Feb 19, 2009 9:46 AM EST

Tyson Chandler has missed fourteen straight games with a sprained ankle, but the center's asthma may have played a role in his failed physical.

The Thunder voided a trade with the Hornets that would have sent Chandler to Oklahoma City for Joe Smith and Chris Wilcox on Wednesday night.

"We have to listen to the people (conducting) our medicals," general manager Sam Presti said. "We feel the right decision for us was to move in another direction. We're disappointed it did not work out. At the same time, we look forward to having both Chris and Joe back in Thunder uniforms."

You are, Sam, but they probably aren't.

And how bad is his asthma that they killed the trade and also, how can you play professional basketball with asthma that's (allegedly) so severe?

Exactly. If I am Walsh I am considering offering Marbury-who will never play a game in a Thunder uniform-for Chandler and Antonio Daniels. Ship Malik and Jerome for Hughes. Ship Jefferies for Etan/Mike.

Chandler
Lee
Wilson
Hughes
Duhon

Daniels, Nate, Gallo, Harrington, TT off the bench.

personally i'd rather trade Curry or Jefferies along w/another asset like Nate for Chandler & kill 2 birds w/1 stone rather than take on his contract & undo all the cap flexibility that Donnie created w/his previous trades.

If the Hornets were willing to take JJ1 with Rose, I would do this deal. Chandler is a legit defensive presence and is good at finishing on the pick and roll play. I would then immediately work out a buyout with Curry and try to save the team $5-6 million.

I never felt like we needed two max players. If we just sign Lebron and add him to a team with W. Chandler, Nate, D.G., Lee, T. Chandler, and Duhon, our team would be pretty solid.
