One NBA team executive told Alan Hahn of Newsday that David Lee is "off the market" and another person with knowledge of the situation echoed the sentiment that Lee will not be traded before Thursday's deadline.

One source said he would only expect to see Lee traded at the deadline "if the Cavaliers offered LeBron James in return."

That's fine but Walsh better have a plan in place to trade Nate and Jeffries or Curry.

Why do they make it sound like we strangely yanked Lee off the market as if we're unwilling to make any deal that might help us?

What if Donnie simply already talked to all teams that were interested, saw nothing of value, and moved on a day early? I guess that wouldn't sell because it's not dramatic and doesn't make the Knicks sound like lunatics and would close the door on any "OMFG WALSH IS A MORON FIRE HIM NOW!!!!111" type reaction.

Woe is me I had no idea all teams feverishly work the phones staying up for days on end right until 3PM Thursday. Here I thought teams freely talked trade all through February and some deals get made early and other discussions cease to have legs early.

Who knows - when you listen to Donnie, he's usually very cryptic. On almost every sound bite with Walsh, you walk away wondering if he really believes what he just said or if it was just some kind of lip service for some alterior motive. He could be playing some poker here - suppose that's a rumor he's floating in order to get a team that likes Lee to up the offer by the deadline. That wouldn't suprise me. Have to wait until 3pm tomorrow - then we'll know for certain. As of right now, my gut tells me it's possible Lee still could be moved.

My take is that they have until 3:00 tomorrow to put him back on the market if the right offer is made.

If nobody has come and said Paxson has taking Amare off the table, why is there an announcement for Lee??? The knicks look small time with stuff like this.

He might want to keep Lee, but putting this out leads people to believe that Lee is getting low ball offer more then Walsh is turning down good deals left and right. He is trying to drum up interest IMO, because no way Bosh is still in play but David Lee needs a declaration he is off the table.

I would prefer to either resign Lee or do a sign and trade this summer anyway.

This summer is going to be Walsh's defining moment with this team. We should have another hight draft pick and will need to make decisions ontwo key players in Lee and Nate. If we lose both of them for nothing, Walsh should be fired.

This would have been much easier if they would have given Lee 7 million over the summer. At minimum it will cost the Knicks 15 million over a 5 year contract.

Ouch. Sign-and-trade. I like Lee but that's WAY too much.

Lee can't start at 15 anyway.

that market doesnt exist now... not even close. Nobody is or can offer Lee anything like that this offseason. Just get your hear around that.

Second the Knicks can still offer a big contract. A 6 year $66mm contract starts at $7.8mm and 8.7mm in 2010 and David would be an idiot not to take it.
Also the Knicks could offer him a 5 year contract with an opt out after 2 years. At that point if Lee is averaging 20/12/55%FGs he can opt out and the Knicks could give him a monster contract extension.

Lee's best financial interests are with staying with the Knicks. In case you havent been following the Knicks and Walsh have quite a history of generosity when it comes to playing their own players.

This argument has a familiar feel....
