Curry/Lee for LaFrentz is not as crazy as it sounds. It doesn't mess with their team chemistry and they get Lee. I'd say it's a long shot, but good for Walsh for sticking to his plan. If it comes off, he's done a great job towards moving this franchise forward. If he can also send JJ2 to Sac with some combination of expiring's for some talent, I'd say he's done a great job of clearing the table for the future.

Is this going down, or is this just something you're saying?

No thanks. Basically giving away Lee for nothing. If we're gonna do that, may as well wait till the offseason when he signs an offer sheet for some obscene amount.

Sorry, this is from *cough* Berman and is from yesterday. Here is the excerpt:

" David Lee is not out of the woods yet. According to a league source, the Blazers have made another late play for Lee.

Sources say Knick president Donnie Walsh has told teams interested in Lee they'd have to take back injured center Eddy Curry, too. That's probably a deal-killer.

Packaging Lee with Curry is perhaps the only way Walsh will give up on the Knicks' popular power forward. Trading Curry would make the Knicks a shoo-in to be far enough under the 2010 cap to sign two maximum free agents - LeBron James and, say, Chris Bosh.

Walsh last night denied he has a deal for Lee/Curry with Portland. But Lee is not considered a Walsh-type center. Plus, the team's power forward of the future still is 6-foot-11 rookie Danilo Gallinari.

"I'm not worried about that. Whatever happens, happens," Lee said. "Hopefully I'll be here, but I have no way of controlling that."

The Blazers are shopping the expiring contract of Raef LaFrentz, who's out for the season but whose salary would make it possible to add Curry. The Knicks would likely have interest in a low-cost talent such as Portland guard Sergio Rodriguez.

Curry has played 2 minutes, 38 seconds this season and is out indefinitely with knee pain. Curry's trade value is nonexistent unless he is paired with Lee. "

There's no reason they should get Lee just for us to save money on Curry. If that's the case than if we traded Marbury to Sacto, we should ask for Jason Thompson, Spencer Hawes and Dontae Green at minimum

If Gallinari plays the four you better get Wilt to play next to him. Gallo wont make it ten games on the inside.

Well, I haven't run with the numbers, but I think it clears the way for a second max FA in 2010. If you look at it from a 'would you rather have Lee or Bosh (etc..)' then I think it makes sense...AND...I think we can still improve the team by doing something with Sac. ala Jason Thompson, Spencer Hawes and Dontae Green or Miller, Salmons etc....

We're definitely taking a major leap of faith, essentially giving up Lee for nothing in the hopes that we can sign Bosh.

Why cant we just trade with Toronto straight up?

from Alan Hahn's blog:

Meanwhile, we were told by two sources to put the David Lee rumors to rest. One executive for an NBA team said he was told that Lee was "off the market" and another person with knowledge of the situation said he fully expects Lee to remain with the Knicks through Thursday's 3 p.m. deadline.

The potential cap room's nice, but I'd be looking for a little more than that. Nothing crazy, maybe their 2009 1st rounder (currently sitting in the mid 20s) or Bayless, a guy they obviously don't love anyway. They can keep Aldridge and Outlaw - I'd love to get either of those guys don't get me wrong, I like Aldridge and Outlaw a lot, but it's not realistic. Those are productive regular rotation guys for them. Main cogs. Plus Oden's not 100% - we all saw that even before the bone chip news came out the other day - they need Aldridge's size and production inside and they need Outlaw - Webster's hurt and Fernandez is more of a 2-guard off the bench and Roy's basically there lead guy, starting at the 2. Include the 1st rounder or Bayless (love to get both) and I might pull the trigger. That's more cap room along with a nice young piece - that wouldn't be terrible. Love to get more but it might not be realistic. We could still screw this up royally if Lee ever bolted for nothing. At least major cap room and a nice young player is something...

That would be the worst trade ever.

Curry & Lee for mondo cap room and either an additional 1st rounder in the mid 20s or Jerryd Bayless (like I said hopefully we could grab both). Definitely not the worst trade ever...
