There is no real trade buzz, apparently, coming out of the Garden so let’s put our thinking caps on for a second.

This team needs rebounding and shot blocking, has a few assets, and a good mind making basketball decisions. Forget about any trades involving David Lee, or using Lee or Nate Robinson to shed Eddy Curry. If Walsh can do that he can have a statue in Times Square. No one is taking Eddy Curry. We talked about possibly moving Nate to Orlando, but that would be deemed “lateral” in Walsh’s mind. That said, let’s see how TKB stacks up.

Here are a list of a few possible REALISTIC trades that TKB could make if we were in Donnie’s shoes:

Malik Rose to the Thunder for Earl Watson

Thoughts: Walsh has said he won’t make any lateral moves, but this is one that makes the Knicks better. Watson can give the Knicks some capable minutes behind Duhon and not take any minutes away from Nate. This also gives the team the opportunity to move Nate for front line help. The Thunder are looking for cap space and Watson’s deal expires before 2010. is he a D’Antoni guard? Well he’s a real solid defender and decision maker, two things any coach would want.

Rose and Nate Robinson to the Hornets for Hilton Armstrong, Antonio Daniels and a 2009 or 2010 first round pick

This is far from a lateral move for the Knicks as Daniels would provide some energy left by Nate’s departure and Armstrong would instantly bolster the team’s front line. Armstrong, a Peekskill native, has a qualifying offer after next year and the team gets the 2010 pick it’s been looking for. The Hornets need a spark and Nate would be the spark plug that could give Nola the shot it needs to make a playoff run. Ty Chandler has been injured, but will be okay. Of course it may be tough to get the Hornets to rid of two rotation players, so maybe they settle on Nate for Hilton and the pick and then we spin Rose to Oklahoma City for Watson.

Please feel free to think of your own trades and put them in the comments section and I will be sure to let you know what I think about them. Remember, you must include why the other teams would do it. (Here’s your chance Mucha-respecta)

Would you take back Armstrong, Watson and a Pick if it cost you Nate and Rose?

I like the Rose, Nate for Armstrong, Watson and 1st RD pick. I think this will really help our team. I can see why the Hornets would do this and I think Nate would flourish with the Hornets.

I like the trade but I am not that familiar with Hilton. Would Hilton be a good complement for DLee?

This is crp. You don't trade the best player in the deal for crp when youre in the Knicks position. If some team wants to be desperate because of cap space--then talk--otherwise do nothing unless it's really something. Hilton Armstrong Daniels and the 35th pick in the draft is nothing.

People don't understand that BRIGGS everyone wants to do lateral trades. But these trades don't make the Knicks better and it certainly doesn't doesn't help put the Knicks over the top. The plan has to be better than getting Watson, and it has to better than Hilton Armstrong and Daniels. IMHO I would rather let Malik finish off his contract. Let Nate walk and Lee for that matter than to add more garbage. I think trading Lee and Nate together with an expiring contract of Malik should return impact players in return. Adding Hilton, Watson is basically adding more role players to a team full of role players.

I still think the Knicks need to try and add Amare to the Knicks. Look to rack up picks second or late first round.

That's not necessarily true. Lateral moves, as it pertains to talent, can help teams out if the talent is repositioned to a place of need, among other factors. Watson certainly wouldn't put the Knicks over-the-top, but he'd definitely improve the team, because the Knicks need a backup point

Supreme - This is what I see. It might be a lateral move talent wise but position wise it not. We are re-allocating inventory to the right spots. Plus, getting a 1st round pick in the deal is the key for me.

Man I'm really disappointed in what Hilton Armstrong's become. He's done NOTHING to distinguish himself since he's been in the NBA, save for possibly only a few good games early on - I remember one game where he played well all-around in Detroit as a rookie to help his team win, another where he blocked Dwight Howard's shot at the end of the game to secure another victory. Other than that..... The guy's had very little impact at all since becoming a pro, game to game. Coming out of UConn I saw a quick capable big man - a solid defender & shot-blocker along with a budding offensive game - I really though he was going to be a better player than Channing Frye and I thought that when Channing was a rookie for us and playing well. Very surprised at his lack of output so far.
