The Toronto Raptors have agreed to send Jermaine O'Neal and Jamario Moon to the Miami Heat in exchange for Shawn Marion and Marcus Banks, league sources told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher.

The deal is pending league approval, according to sources, and if approved, would be announced later Friday afternoon.

That's a pretty good trade for both teams actually.

The Raptors should get a boost in the wins department with Marion coming and the Heat have better balance with JO on the floor at center.

Funny thing is don't we play the raptors in a home and away in about a week???? We'll see first hand if Marion is a good fit right away.

Wade is going to excel with a good big man (again). If JO stays healthy than I think Miami is a pretty good team come playoff time. Very very interesting to see how this affects the rookie, as Miami now has an excellent big presence inside and out.

Finally the moves are starting. I am guessing there will be more trades than in years past (There is the economy to consider with smaller teams and the next three years of big free agents hitting.)

with bosh coming back, marion provides a new element out there. it gives the raps cap flexibility this summer and also gives them an option to retain marion if they want to after the season or use him in a S&T. the raps finally get a wing they can rely on...although they still didn't address the wing player that can create and help out running the point at times.

jermaine, when he was healthy, provided some good defense and blocked a ton of shots. he sometimes had his shot falling and sometimes he would miss alot of gimme's...but that's probably b/c he doesn't really have his legs back. at times, he was a black hole on the offense tho but was still a help. miami on the hook for his $23 mil next season too - which means they've decided to pass on boozer.

This looks like a trade that benefits both teams. Miami shed even more salary for 2010 yet they mightve made their team way better for the now.

Toronto may have gotten better as well in terms of chemistry.

I say Miami wins the trade... they swapped a star on the decline for another who's bigger, and in the process swapped Marcus BAnks for Jamario Moon... who's pretty decent

moon stinks. miami also gave toronto $3 mil. toronto gave up a heavily protected conditional draft pick which probably won't ever reach those conditions. i think this trade is as even a deal you can get in the league as both teams got what they wanted.

You'd know better than me... why was Miami so insistent on getting Moon back?

(edit) and it was a close talent trade, but in the spirirt of simplicity, I'll say one side wins and I think Miami made out better

jermaine missed 14 games already and will probably miss more as the season goes on. his body is not built for postseason intensity. i hope he stays healthy tho b/c he busts his ass out there.

miami is really left with no SF and the raps were not re-signing moon. and with this trade, moon would be glued to the bench b/c joey graham is outplaying him severely. moon has been benched for long periods of time the past month or so. plus, he doesn't have great trade value b/c he makes less than a mil.

Every time a team makes a trade it pisses me off because of how worthless our team is. We have nobody good to trade.
Thank you, Rick Brunson.

I think you meant Marion instead of Moon... but, no, there isn't a better D'Antoni team out there, though I'd love to see what he could do with Atlanta, New Orleans, or Oklahoma City.

I agree. Which goes to show you how much Walsh/MDA really care about winning before 2010. And I have no problem with it either - I think the big push for winning games comes in 2010, after we hopefully assemble a good enough team to really compete properly. Instead of being totally honest with us they've smoke-screened us a little bit by making us believe they brought in enough talent (Harrington, Thomas) to remain competitve and possibly sneak into the playoffs this year. That may be so to a certain degree and I guess they have to come out and say that with all the season ticket holders and such demanding a semi-decent product but the real fans know better. Deep down they know it's not time to win yet either. Otherwise, why not play Marbury from the beginning after telling him to come in in good shape, which is exactly what he did? They jerked Marbury around - he's been a clown and has embarrassed this franchise numerous times, but the fact of the matter is that neither Walsh nor D'Antoni were truthful with him since they've been here. Marbury playing from the beginning would've lead to 5 more wins, at least.... Why not rescind the Randolph deal after Cuttino failed the physical? Why not go after Jermaine O'Neal or Marion, a former MDA guy? Yeah, they want to win alright. My thing is, at this point, go all the way and just tank the last 30 games after the break...

I really couldn't care less about winning another game for the remainder of the season (if anything, winning needs to start next yr. - I mean who really wants to surrender a great pick to Utah in 2010 anyway? Not me.). I'm all for tanking it out the rest of the way and maximizing our draft position come next June. That is SOOOOOOOOOOOO much more important to me than winning enough games to sneak into the playoffs as an 8th seed only to get embarrassed by Boston in a quick 0-3. I understand what happened in '99 was special and that anything can happen, but seriously, this team doesn't nearly have the talent our '99 squad had. No chance of doing anything with this roster in the playoffs. Zero. So what's the point?? Tank it out the rest of the way, get in that 5-8 range and grab Jeff Teague. Out of all the players in this upcoming draft (Griffin/Harden/Thabeet included), this kid Teague will wind up being the best player chosen by the time it's all said and done. And he won't last past GS, currently hovering around pick #6. Hit the link I posted to an SI.com article on the USC/Arizona thread - in that article, two anonymous NBA executives raved about Teague's talent. That's the guy I want and I want us to at least be in the position to grab him. Bayless slipped last year so maybe he does slip a little, but not down to 14, 15. No way. Probably not even to 10. In my estimation he's top 3 talent. And as good as I think Bayless is, this kid Teague's better. PGs with that type of ability with the ball in their hands 95% of the time... I'd love to get a guy like that in here. That's my view of this team for the rest of the year...

i actually really like this trade for both teams. i think it helps both teams. a lot. without changing their 2010 cap situation much at all. in fact, does Toronto now get room to try and improve their team THIS summer if they don't like Marion - in an effort to appease Bosh? I think they do. smart moves all around for both teams. Joneal will be the big Miami has needed all year. i think Moon might do really well in Miami. I think Marion will thrive with Calderon and Bosh.

oh wow, didn't realize Miami gets extras: Protected pick too. If Miami does not get that first-round pick in 2010, it will get an additional second-round pick that year. The Heat also get a $4.2 million trade exception, which would allow Miami to make a future trade even if the salaries involved don't match.

i wouldn't rule out a trade for Amare at the deadline still... but i'd be OK w/a trade like that cuz he's the type of guy u should be willing to give up assets to obtain to begin with... but barring any blockbusters like that i would much rather Donnie just trade Lee & Nate for more picks, tank the rest of the games & build through the draft for next season.
