Happy All-Star Weekend, Terry Porter. You’re fired! Maybe…

Word on the street, er, Web, is that the Suns are about to relieve their first-year coach of his duties. And that word, comes from the NY Post – so take it for what it’s worth:

Meanwhile, according to a Phoenix source, Porter will be replaced by Kerr, who recently completed a crash correspondence coaching course taught by McHale and Tony DiLeo.


A relatively plugged-in Suns blog is also hearing similar rumors about the Suns’ head coach.

If Porter were to be given his walking papers, it wouldn’t exactly be a shocking move on the part of Steve Kerr and co. He has failed, spectacularly, to get the players to buy into his system, and let’s just say the city of Phoenix isn’t planning any parade routes for mid-to-late June.

The Suns might want to hold off on the firing until after the weekend to save everyone involved a few headaches.

Shouldn't they fire Kerr first? He was the mastermind behind the Shaq trade that worked out so well, helped push MDA out and pick Porter.

That appears to be an 0 for 3.

Weak. How is it Porter's fault? Although if I were Porter I'd be begging to get canned to get out of that DISASTER of a situation that Sarver/Kerr have created. Idiots.

IMO Porter did very well in Milwaukee and then got canned...why...because the roster couldn't stay healthy? LOL at that. They lost FOUR starters on a team that was murdering the East the one year - and then those same guys went down his second season as well. Then they fire the coach. Ridiculous.

Porter is a good guy I hope he gets a chance with a decent roster again one day.

What exactly is Kerr's grand "plan"? I can't make sense of what they're trying to do.

He is trying to become Isiah West, just like Isiah tried to become Suns East.

It's amazing how many teams have personnel problems and then go ahead and blame the coach for not winning with their crappy personnel.

Porter was the opposite of D'Antoni. This reminds me of when the Knicks replaced Riley with Nelson only to fire him and replace him with a Riley disciple in JVG.

Kerr screwed up, definitely, but one of the only coaches worse than Porter is Vinny Del Negro. This is like the Larry Brown/Isiah Thomas thing... they both should have gotten shown the door

Whats wrong with building a team around two 35+ year olds?

Whats wrong with scapegoating a really good coach and all but kicking him out the door?

Whats wrong with ostracising your best player which has lowered his trade value and created a toxic situation where said player is counting the seconds till he's out the door?

Seems like you've got the problem, not Kerr.

BTW, coaches cant by property anymore. Them cats need to sign like 6month leases the way job security in the NBA is going. What a joke.

I agree, it's ridiculous. GM's have a liscence to be horrendous. They blame the coach for not being able to win with their crappy players and the owners buy it. When you get a good coach you stick with him.
