Wildcats up on the Trojans early on here - doubling up USC 30-15. Everything going down for the Cats. A lot of talent on display in this game. Nic Wise (very underrated PG), Jordan Hill and Budinger all playing extremely well. USC's got some problems - they have talented guys in DeRozan (a little raw still but he's developing) and Gibson but guys like Danny Hackett and Dwight Lewis who are ball hogs and think they're stars and they're not. Tim Floyd's a lose cannon head coach (not to mention a terrible dresser - would it hurt you to put a shirt & tie on you bum??) who has no idea how to use Taj Gibson properly - he has all the talent to be a 20/10/3 PF in the NCAA but goes way underutilized on that team. Gibson's one of the most underrated prospects out there right now. He will be a better NBA player once he moves on from this mess. Gibson would be a PERFECT reserve big for the Knicks provided Donnie could come up with an extra late pick somehow...

Hey Floyd's passably dressed tonight. What a shock.

Nic Wise with 15 already - just under 4 mins. to go in the 1st half still.

USC made a great comeback, going up by as many as 8 pts. in a 26 pt. turnaround only to fall short in the end. Hackett and Lewis were both instrumental in bringing the Trojans back from the dead and deserve credit (along with Gibson for yet another solid blue-collar effort) although I still think both are ball hogs and way overhyped from within on that team.

I noticed that the Wildcats opted to double Gibson everytime he touched the ball, no matter where he was on the court. I've seen teams defend him like that before and when that happens, he has no choice but to kick it out to an open man. But there have been plenty of times I see this kid bust his ass to establish post position on either side of the block only to get looked off by teammates. It's gotta be frustrating for him - he's one of the senior guys on that squad. Been going on for the better part of two years now. When you've got offensive options like an OJ Mayo, OK, you defer, but they don't have a player even remotely close to Mayo offensively this year. Still a mystery to me how this kid isn't incorporated into the offensive scheme more. Still putting up close to 15/10/3 and that's mostly on sheer hard work cleaning up on the offensive glass and off broken plays. Has the skill to play a much bigger role offensively in a different system and with a different supporting cast at the next level however and his rebounding and defensive tools are top notch. Runs the court like a deer, makes few mistakes with the ball and for a big guy with a thin frame, I never see him getting pushed around or outmuscled out there. Any perceived lack of strength is a total non-issue with this guy and anyone who says that just hasn't seen him play. Holds his ground well against bigger, seemingly stronger competition. He is flat out a tremendous value as a late 1st/early 2nd round selection for some team in this upcoming draft that needs a big man.

Anybody see Harden play? For some reason, guess it's the facial hair (ehehe) he reminds me of OJ. Lot's of composure for a young guy.

Probably not the perimeter shooter OJ Mayo is and this kid seems a little bigger/stronger to me but yeah, overall they're similar. He's very smooth with a lot of ability in different areas. Good comparison. One NBA exec. actually compares him favorably to Paul Pierce with a "sneaky" amount of athleticism. Another feels he'll be the perfect second banana if he's ever paired up next to a star player at the next level. Check this article out by Ian Thomsen over at SI.com, interesting read. Hill looks ok. Derozan reminds me of Duhon. Similar moves and body type.
Alan Hahn: Nate Robinson has been on a ridonkulous scoring tear lately (remember when he couldn't hit Jerome James with a Big Mac in early January?)

Really?? I don't see the comparison. DeRozan's a slasher, a run the floor/transition SF with limited range on the jumper in the half court --- Duhon's a PG who has trouble slashing and finishing at the basket. Duhon is actually a very good jumpshooter with range, unlike DeRozan. Nothing alike if you ask me. AJ Price reminds me of Duhon a little. I think Price is better.

Nice blurb on him. I have only seen his highlights but one thing that stands out is his calm demeanor and poise. That is where I got the OJ comparison. He doesn't seem to want to take over games though, sort of like OJ. I think Harden might stand out much much more as a pro than at the college level, much like OJ.

Thx for the read,
EMS

Remember Duhon at Duke? They just move in a similar way on the floor. Derozan was handling the ball for USC for the time I was watching. Seems like he's playing point forward for them. I know he's listed at 6'6", but he doesn't look that big on the floor. Is that really his height? Maybe its just because both teams have good size for college squads.

Derozan looks like he has similar range to Rose from his year in college. I wonder if MikeD would OK drafting a player that can't shoot.

i don't see that whatsoever... first of all Derozan's a lot bigger & plays a slashing style like Finest says... Duhon's an orchestrator/penetrator & spot up shooter... J Rich early in his career is more comparable to Derozan, both in style of game & bodytype.

Chase Budinger is going to be one of the Knick target players. We'll be too low for Hill barring lottery miracles[and I view Griffin Harden and Thabeet as 1-2-3 anyway] He's a good player with good size for the shooting G--the question is can we take a guy like Budinger after we took Danillo?

Duhon was a slasher in his duke days though no? I've seen the guy play for fifteen minutes, I can't give a detailed scouting report or anything. Just limited impressions.

He looks OK. I can't see Walsh and D'Antoni picking someone who's not a ready made shooter though either way.

i been talking up Budinger for the past several months & now he's starting to inch up into the top 10 on the Draft projection rankings... why wouldn't the Knicks take him if they had Gallo? he's very reminiscent of Matt Harpring, very smart & heady player & has a tenacity about his game, almost like a David Lee w/a jumpshot... MDA loves guys who are versatile & who can stroke the perimeter J... Budinger would fit this style of play beautifully... he's a very unselfish player & is a competitor... he's not a soft guy by any means.

yeah, his jumper definitely needs work & u'r probably right that MDA would look to guys who can stroke the J before someone like Demar, but i personally feel like this kid has real star talent & will eventually develop a better J w/more seasoning... but who knows, he can turn out to be another Gerald Green as well.

I think one of Mike D's top criteria is going to have to be players who can get back on defense quickly... as well as being able to stroke it on offense as usual.

Maybe we take Summers.

He'll be on ESPN today against the 'Cuse.

did u catch the Arizona/UCLA game today? Jordan Hill is a beast downlow... the guy's got springs built into his legs & he gets up for rebounds & putbacks a-la David Lee w/more athleticism... plus the guy demonstrated nice post up skills & a sweet turn around fade away jumper that he knocked down on 1 possession... everyone who says Lee is irreplaceable isn't paying attention to some of the prospects that are available in this year's draft IMO.

Chase Budinger was also stroking it from the outside & he was orchestrating on several possessions as well... kid looks like a big shot maker from what i see, he made a few last second 3's w/the clock winding down & a hand directly in his face... at a legit 6'8"-6'9" this guy would be a real tough cover in the NBA against smaller G's... he also made a few nice steals w/his long arms in the passing lanes as well, seems like he's got natural instincts for the ball.

I didn't catch the game today but yeah, Jordan Hill's the real deal. Out on a limb for a sec. -- when you take into account his solid midrange game that he features along with the advanced post-up finesse game, pound for pound this guy might be a better player than Blake Griffin. Griffin's slightly ahead of him with the power game & in the strength department (and even that's up for debate if you ask me) but other parts of the game - the multi-layered offense game, running the court, legit shot-blocking prowess - Hill's ahead of Griffin. Hill's one of the most improved big men in the country along with Iowa State's Craig Brackins. It wouldn't surprise me if Jordan Hill winds up being the best big man in this upcoming draft after the dust settles in 2-3 years.

And yeah Budinger's a good player. Big and can really shoot it. Runs the floor well and is on the receiving end of quite a few alley-oop passes for dunks. Helps out on the glass too. When he's on he's a tough matchup. Kid's a real good athlete - I think I read somewhere that he's a standout volleyball player too.

How'd Nic Wise look today? Did he hold his own against Collison & Holiday? This kid's one of the more underrated college PGs out there right now. Lit up USC the other night and was drilling NBA-range 3s like they were layups...

Watched 'cuse-Gtown today.

Flynn's a gamer. Nice 2nd round pick for someone.

Summers didn't stand out.

Monroe looks like a nice player, but no outside game today, so he won't work for MikeD.
