Hornets center Tyson Chandler has been mentioned in trade rumors, and a source told CBS Sports that the team is likely to shed some of their long-term salaries.

"They're gonna dump somebody because they're broke," one rival exec said.

Chandler's name has been linked to the Heat, in a trade involving Shawn Marion, which would make sense for the Hornets because of Marion's expiring contract.

New Orleans is under the luxury tax threshold, but are considered to be over-budget and could look to move Chandler, Peja Stojakovic, Morris Peterson or even James Posey.

terrible attendance in a city that can't financially support them. on a side note, paul will get scott fired next year and then paul will bolt in 2011. maybe that's who the knicks should get cap room for...

the team is under luxury tax and #21 in payroll...and they're over-budget...

Maybe they should've stayed in Oklahoma after all.

give them malik rose for hilton armstrong and antonio daniels + number 1 picks in 2009 and 2011 unrestricted and the right to switch picks in 2012

saves them 2.3mm this year 9mm next year in contracts + another 7mm in lux tax---savings18.3mm

Look before you leap. Chandler's rebounding numbers are down significantly this season. He's not that old - mid to late 20's.

Both Chandler and Peja Stojakovic have huge salaries and all four players are siged through 2011. In 2011
Chandler $12.75 millon
Stojakovic $15.3 million
Peterson $6.6 million
Posey through 2012 for $6.9 million

So forget getting them in any trade.

Right now, if Anthonio Daniels were available, I would take him as backup guard for 2 years. He is signed through 2010 for $6.6 million. Maybe they would take Malik and Roberson.

The trade of Shawn Marion for Chandler does make sense as it fills a need for both teams.

I agree they should take a lot of other teams out to like the Grizzlies. This is called the unnecessary distribution of talent.

Totally agree. All these teams have watered down the product. I cringe when I watch a Grizz or Bobcat game and notice all the fans desguised as empty seats.

The Hornets, Griz and Bobcats should be contracted....Take the players and put them in a supplementary draft.

Add the raptors to that list. Two eastern conference teams, two western. Nobody is trying to go to play in Canada. The experiment bombed.

Why? The attendance for the Thunder will plummet soon enough. The dirty secret of the NBA is that all these smaller market cities say they want a NBA franchise and will attend for the first few years but will disappear over time. Not every city is a NBA city and equip to deal with the price of being a NBA city in the long run.

I never fully understood why NBA players dont want to play in Canada. Can someone explain why players wouldnt want to play in Toronto..other than because its cold or the schooling isnt the same as the US system.

Maybe they hate having to go through customs every time they go on a road trip.

This saves them some $$ & doesnt hurt the Knicks 2010+ FA scenario. Of course, in saving them some $$, we get the talent edge (they gotta pay the piper).
