The most apparent candidates are:

Cleveland
Detroit
Boston
Orlando
Atlanta

Teams to a lesser degree I see making the playoffs

Philly
Miami

And the final spot:

Depends on whose playing the best ball between, NY, Charlotte, NJ, Chicago, Mil, Indiana. There isn't really much separating these teams in terms of talent. Even crappy Tor could make the playoffs if they can manage to string together about a month of good basketball. So it's really for grabs right now and probably remain this way until the end of the season.

But I see the Knicks missing the playoffs because of one simple fact; they don't have a goto guy for down the stretch. Once the second half of the season starts kicking in and teams really start fighting for playoff spots or better playoff seeds it will come down to guys being able to perform in clutch. The Knicks lack the type of player who can just take over a game in the fourth quarter and lead the team to a win on any given night. Nor do the Knicks possess a strong defensive presence that can compensate for their lack of a goto player.

Just my two cents

I hate to admit because you know my feelings on him but the Knicks don't have anyone even crappy Vince Carter's level. He's a complete bum when it counts but he can eek you out a few victories against the mediocre or bad teams in the conference.

And I hate baseball

Cavs
Celtics
Pistons
Magics
Hawks
Heat
76ers
Nets or Knicks.

The Bucks are up in the air. Even with Redd gone they are still finding ways to win.

You are right - that we don't have a goto guy to close a game. And that has hurt us . However, our strength is a balanced team style of play and a deep bench. We do need a superstar, but that is 1 1/2 yrs away. In the meantime, we have a number of guys who can take the last shot. They need to practice plays for that and gain confidence.

Harrington; Duhon; Nate; Q; David Lee pick and roll; Chandler; TT; Gallinari....all are capable.....just depends who is hot.

The Bucks can not suffer any other injuries to their key players but maybe with Redd out that will open the floor up for Jefferson who DJ absolutely looooooves.

Charlotte I think is the dark horse one of those teams that on one takes seriously and they steal a game and here and next thing you know they have the 8th seed.

Milwaukee Bucks center Andrew Bogut will miss at least eight weeks with a stress fracture in his back.

The former No. 1 overall pick went through a series of tests earlier this week that revealed the injury. Bogut will need exercise and rest, but no surgery is scheduled.

Bogut's injury is another blow to the Bucks, who are in eighth place in the Eastern Conference but have already lost leading scorer Michael Redd to a season-ending knee injury.

Bogut is averaging 11.7 points and a team-high 10.3 rebounds, but started suffering back spasms after a game Dec. 17 against Philadelphia

In the east are you kidding me, 37 wins will be enough for the 8th seed. As a matter of fact there will be at least 2 loosing records in those final 2 spots

& my prediction is that we won't win 37 games, we'll win 35 & just miss out on the playoffs, thus landing ourselves a #11 pick in the lottery... what aren't u getting?

The point about not having a go to guy is a valid one. We don't. Our advantage is our depth and also that we've been pretty healthy as teams go. I think the odds are against us making the playoffs, but there's a decent chance we'll pull it out.

So were not going to win at least 16 more games, thats not what im getting. we will have (hopefully) at least 23 to 24 wins by all star break. With about 32/33 games left. we would only have to win about 14 of those and thats not far fetch.
