Could it be done? Or would we still be way off the mark.

No, there is no height on the team. The Lakers have Bynum and Gasol which makes them one of the tallest team and they are good. Knicks don't have that.

They would certainly have a legit chance, even without height. Our style of play coupled with solid players around a heck of a player in Kobe? If we are still in the chase for the playoffs with a bunch of role players, the sky would be the limit. No guarantees, as there isn't with any of the top teams. Cleveland could go out of it before the Finals. Orlando could stun the Celtics. Last year the Lakers were supposed to win another championship. Never a given, but the Knicks would certainly be title contenders given the state of the NBA.

I'm not sure we'd be any better than the 42 to 45 win Lakers were in the years between Shaq and Gasol.

FOr example, how much better a support do we have relative to the 06-07 Lakers with Odom, Bynum, Farmar, Turiaf, Walton, Vujacic, etc?

yeah, we still need an enforcing big down low next to Lee. I think Harrington and Nate are good enough scorers though. Duhon and Kobe and Lee with that pick and roll would be pretty sick.

Offensively, it would work. We'd be the best offensive team in the league, IMO, but we'd need to draft a real big somehow.

It would be tough because we have no lowpost presence and even with Kobe would only a so-so defensive squad. If Curry's fat butt were in shape and playing, then we would have a better chance. I doubt Kobe alone could get us to the finals, but the conference finals would be very possible.

If Kobe was a Knick the first thing he would do is demand that Harrington should be immediately traded and would give the stink eye to Nate which would get him escorted off the court and then traded.

One thing is for sure. If Kobe was a Knick, he'd have every single player on his team competing hard, including that ugly bum Eddy Curry.

Agreed with you on Harrington. But I would like to see Nate in a purely SG role off the bench with strong personalities around him (giving him the stink eye all the time); I think he would excel.

Harrington for Diaw straight up http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=4966956

Duhon, Kobe, Chandler, Diaw, Lee - nice balance but a little small. This team could play both ends and score like crazy. Thomas, Q, N8, JJ2 and Rooster off the bench. Yup, I'd say we make the finals, but no win w/o home court

The first thing he would do is to tell Harrington to hit a treadmill, because he is badly out of shape.

I say yes. The type of scorer the Knicks are looking to fill is the shooting guard position. David Lee is a great running PF. Kobe would love to run and he's the perfect running SG. The shooting and FT stats Kobe had last night is exactly what the Mike D'Antoni thrives on.

The Knicks would still need a big. I don't know, figure out how to get Boris Diaw.

PG Duhon
SG Bryant
SF Gallo/Chandler/Harrington
C/PF Lee
PF/C Diaw

Bench: Gallo/Chandler/Harrington/Robinson/Richardson/Jeffries

So, if it were possible to get Kobe, just outright sign him, keep seven other starters, then yes. The closest thing to a need in the UFA market, I think, is Dwyane Wade. The team needs a two, and the Knicks need a tall player than can run, pass, rebound, and block a shot every now and again.

The problem is the there is no way possible to get Kobe for nothing, unless he chokes Phil Jackson.

Interesting question. I don't think so. We would still would not have any defensive presence in the middle so the result would be an early playoff bounce.

i don't think any 1 superstar could get this current Knicks' roster to the Finals as long as Boston have their big 3, & definitely not a title as long as the Spurs have their big 3... we need at least 2 superstars to have a legit shot at winning it all.
